Luke Cage Season 2 Not Confirmed by Netflix, Misty Knight Becomes a Superhero

Netflix’s outage on Saturday night made Luke Cage’s popularity evident. The fans fretted about missing Marvel’s first series with a black superhero in the lead. For those who didn’t know, Netflix doesn’t air one episode at a time. The streaming site uploads the whole series at a single go.

While this is perfect for binge watching, the viewers have to wait for the whole season to get over before they can start watching it.

The first season of Luke Cage was a major success. While some viewers found the action a tad slow, the first part of Season 1 came alive thanks to Luke (Mike Colter) and Cottonmouth (Mahershala Ali). The two kept things alive as they chased each other in Harlem.

The first half won over the fans, but the second half of Season 1 couldn’t bring back the same charm with Diamondback (Erik LaRay Harvey). According to AV Club, Diamondback and Luke Cage had a lot of history.

For Diamondback’s story to work out, he had to be introduced way before in Season 1 of Luke Cage. This move would have eliminated the flashback episodes that continued until the season finale.

In spite of all the criticisms, fans are earnestly waiting for Luke Cage Season 2. Game N Guide reported that unlike other Netflix original series, the wait for the second season of Luke Cage might take more than a year.

Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos reported that the network has decided on two Marvel series every year. They have already made plans for the first seasons of The Defenders and Iron Fist in 2017.

Netflix has also announced the second season of Jessica Jones and Daredevil Season 3 for 2018. Netflix is booked for the next two years and does not have slots open for Luke Cage Season 2. Netflix has planned a spin-off for The Punisher, which will get released in 2019. The streaming site might decide to team the second season of Luke Cage with The Punisher.

However, the fans do not have to wait that long to see Luke Cage back in action. He will be a part of The Defenders, which will premiere in 2017. The Defenders be Netflix’s take on the Avengers and will see Cage along with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist.

Given the history shared by Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, there is a chance that Netflix will carry out a crossover between the two shows. With Jessica Jones Season 2 premiering in 2017, the fans might get to see Luke Cage in it.

The fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe do not find any connection between the films and the Netflix series. The viewers found it increasingly strange that there wasn’t any mention of the Civil War in Luke Cage Season 1.

Netflix has released a statement clarifying that the events in Luke Cage Season 1 didn’t refer to the Civil War since they took place in a different time.

Luke Cage Season 2

It will be interesting to see if Luke Cage Season 2 deals with the Sokovia Accords. The Sokovia Accords require all individuals with special powers to get a legal permit to exercise their powers.

Since Luke Cage Season 1 saw the superhero freely move around and appear on national television, it becomes apparent that the Sokovia Accords wasn’t put into effect yet.

The viewers rooting for the second season of Luke Cage has realized that Luke Cage’s power doesn’t depend on whether he defeats Shades, Cottonmouth, and Black Mariah. His power is related to his equation with Misty Knight.
