Luis Suarez Negates Cristiano Ronaldo’s Effort as Barcelona Wins Over Real Madrid in Sunday Classico

The latest Sunday Classico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga did not turn out to be the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi show that every football fan was expecting. After all, they are arguably the first and second best football players, respectively, in the world.

While soccer experts were predicting that the match would be the battle of the respective team’s triumvirate forwards in the persons of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale for Real Madrid, and Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar for Barcelona, only Ronaldo and Suarez showed up in the scoreboard during the game.

Barcelona won the Sunday Classico at Camp Nou with a 2-1 final score over Real Madrid. The win further solidified the team’s hold on the top spot of the Spanish Primera Division by giving themselves a four-point spread over the second-running Real Madrid that they just beaten anew.

Thrilling finish

Lionel Messi did not score a point during the contest but it was he who curled a perfect free kick to Jeremy Mathieu who shot a bullet header to give Barcelona its first point in the 19th minute of the first half, which was seemingly being dominated by Real Madrid, notes Yahoo! News.

The best player in the world Cristiano Ronaldo would not let the game slipped by just as easily as 12 minutes later, he levelled the count by hitting Real Madrid’s first goal coming off a superb backheel pass from Karim Benzema.

Ronaldo put the Ancellotti team back in contention and everyone in the stadium was priming themselves for a thrilling windup that has been the hallmark of many of the matches between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the past.

On the 56th minute of the game, Luis Suarez was able to extricate himself from the defense of Real Madrid to meet Dani Alve’s long pass and scored another point for Barcelona. The host team coasted along during the final minutes to seal the victory.

Most important point

The goal of Luis Suarez was his 14th career goal for Barcelona since joining the team from Liverpool in the summer of last year. But like many football fans, Suarez believes that his last point against Real Madrid was his most important and biggest goal for the team.

Suarez said that his point during the Sunday Classico game was very important and extra significant because the opponent was Real Madrid.

Despite making his 14th goal, Suarez has yet to make it to the list of top five scorers in the Spanish Primera Division which is currently being headlined by his teammate Argentinian Lionel Messi with 32 points, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo with 31 goals, with teammate Neymar coming in at a distant third with 17 points.
