‘Longmire’ Season 5 Renewal Could Be a Bad News in Disguise as Netflix Series Faces Another Cancellation Scare!

Netflix’s crime-drama TV series “Longmire” has been renewed for a fifth season, but it looks like this could be its last.

According to Crossmap, fans of the show are still worried if the TV series is up for future seasons despite Netflix confirming that they are happy with the series.

Apparently, Netflix’s Ted Sarando revealed that the reason they picked up “Longmire” was for the same reason its former network A&E dropped it, gaining a more mature viewership.

Viewers of the show are more mature than the young adult range that A&E was targeting during its first three seasons.

By picking it up, Netflix was testing on giving more people, who were not using the service before, more reasons to subscribe to the streaming service.

According to reports, the show was renewed for the possible last season to tie up loose ends, patch up storylines, and to give the characters a good ending.

As per the Vine Report, the upcoming season will focus on Robert Taylor’s Walt Longmire and his relationship with Dr. Donna Monaghan, played by Ally Walker.

Last season, Longmire’s love life was also the focus as he seemed to be initially interested in Katee Sackhoff’s Vic Moretti, but backed off when he noticed that Vic was trying to work it out with her husband.

By the Season 4 finale, fans saw the sheriff of Absaroka County finally asking out Dr. Monaghan. However, some reports claim that their relationship will be short-lived.

Vine Report claims that Donna is actually working for Callum Keith Rennie’s Walker Browning and is probably one of the people responsible for the attacks on Longmire.

For those who have read Craig Johnson’s “Longmire” novel series where the show is based on, Walt and Vic ended up together, but it’s also interesting to see how fans of the two feel different.

Aside from Walt’s love life, another focus of Season 5  of “Longmire” will be the major cliffhanger from last season. Reports say that viewers will finally know the identity of the intruder who broke into Walt’s house.

Speculation says that among the suspects is Browning, who was shown to be missing from his hospital bed. Another possible suspect is Bailey Chase’s Deputy Branch Connally, who was not seen in the series since the third season.

There’s still no word if the 43-year-old actor would return to the show to reprise his role after a season off, but his return could shake things up in the county.

Netflix also still hasn’t announced the release date for “Longmire” Season 5, but if the streaming service will follow its pattern, it will be released in September.

Netflix will probably won’t reveal the number of episodes for the season as well just like what they did for Season 4, but fans speculate that the upcoming season will consist of 10 episodes too.

Christian Today reports that production is said to start in the spring. The website also notes that the next season’s episodes will be longer compared to the previous seasons.

Each episode is now rumored to last for an hour, instead of 42 minutes. This news was hinted by Lou Diamond Philips himself who plays Henry Standing Bear.

In a recent interview with Variety, the 53-year-old actor said that they had many constraints given the 42-minute limit per episode, but now that they have been given an extra 20 minutes, they can let some moments breathe and actually round out the characters.

Christian Post notes that for fans who are excited about the crime drama’s latest season, more details might be released soon as the Longmire Days Convention is coming.

The Longmire Days Convention will be held in Buffalo, Johnson County, Wyoming. As per the official town website, the convention date will be from July 8 to 9.
