While Netflix has yet to air the fifth season of the American Western police crime drama TV series “Longmire,” there have been rumors that Season 5 is going to be the last for the show.
But producer John Coveny was quick to debunk the allegations when he recently came out to say that he is optimistic that the fifth season would not be the last for “Longmire” and that fans can expect more from of the show in the future.
In fact, if he is to decide, Coveny is envisioning “Longmire” to last for 10 full seasons. While he has considered other factors including the fact that it is for Netflix to decide the fate of the show, the producer prefers to be more optimistic about the show’s future, reports the Christian Times.
It can be recalled that “Longmire” used to air on the A&E network but was canceled after Season 3 amid its good ratings. The network decided against renewing the show for a fourth season because it was not catering to its intended viewer demographics.
It was just fortunate that Netflix picked up the show for Season 4 and the streaming service has subsequently renewed it for a fifth season, which would be hitting the small screen on September 23.
Under Netflix, the showrunners of “Longmire” were given more creative freedom so they were able to come up with darker storylines and violence that were not permitted previously by the A&E network.
Picking up where it left off
What seems clear at the moment is that the Season 5 premiere episode of “Longmire” shall pick up where the Season 4 finale left off featuring an intruder that seemingly cut short the intimate moment between Walt Longmire, played by Robert Taylor, and Donna Sue Monaghan, played by Ally Walker.
According to critics, there could be two possible scenarios in the premiere episode of Season 5 of “Longmire.”
If an altercation between Longmire and the intruder ensues, it could end up wherein Walt Longmire could get hurt or Donna Sue getting injured or killed.
It can be recalled that Longmire’s wife was killed before so seeing Donna Sue getting killed shall bring bad memories to the sheriff, reports the Parent Herald.
However, if both Walt and Donna Sue survived the tussle with the intruder, it may just end their supposed relationship even before it started.
But more fans of the show are actually hoping for a Walt Longmire and Vic Moriarty, played by Katee Sackhoff, relationship. There are also fans who opposed the May-December relationship.
Getting a promotional boost
Last month, “Longmire” got a promotional boost from the Annual Longmire Days event held in Buffalo, Wyoming.
The event gave the upcoming fifth season of “Longmire” major promotional mileage for its eventual airing on Netflix on September 23.
More importantly, it is in the event where fans of the hit TV series got the opportunity to rub elbows with the stars of the show as well as the men and women behind “Longmire.”
The fifth Annual Longmire Days began with a parade that was highlighted by the small talk of novelist Craig Johnson, the writer of the best-selling novels where the TV series is based on.
The cast of “Longmire” took part at the Occidental for a late-night jam to wrap up the first day of the event on a very high note.
The following day, they entertained fans and signed autographs at the Cowboy Carousel Center, and also had the episode screenings of “Longmire” at the Buffalo Theater on the same day.
The third and last day of the Annual Longmire Days was highlighted by Craig Johnson and Robert Taylor signing books at the Johnson County Library.
