About two weeks ago, Lindsay Lohan was suffering from severe joint paints as a result of the Chikungunya virus which got into her system during her vacation at Bora Bora early last month.
She was rushed to a hospital in London, where the “Mean Girl” actress is currently based. Subsequently, her mother Dina went on to say that she wants Lindsay to stay with here in New York until she completely recovers from her ailment.
Now, the two have joined together when they filed an oral defamation lawsuit in a New York state court in Manhattan on February 2 against Fox News, host Sean Hannity, and guest Michelle Fields, details Yahoo! News.
The suit stemmed from an episode of the TV show hosted by Sean Hannity on February 4, 2014 where Michelle Fields alleged that the Lohan mother and daughter were using cocaine.
The case is docketed as Lohan et.al. v Fox News Network LLC et al, New York State Supreme Court, New York County, No. 150973/2017.
One year later
What surprised the network is that the Lohans took all of one year prior to filing their oral defamation charges against the network in court.
Fox News also said that they have removed the particular segment from its archives and even made a public apology to the Lohans, cites a network spokesperson.
Lindsay Lohans and her mother Dina made no attempt whatsoever to demand money after the incident, cites the spokesperson.
But the mother and daughter tandem are doing it now with the current lawsuit that they have just lodged, amid the public apology that was made by the Fox News network after the report came out on air.
Content of the suit
As the respondent to the case, the network got a copy of the charges and it contained an allegation by the Lohans that the defamation happened during a discussion of celebrity overdoses on Hannity’s show on February 4, 2014.
The drug overdose issue was very popular at that time because just two days before the show, actor Philip Seymour Hoffman died of heroin overdose. That’s when Michelle Fields started butting in and disclosed that as far as she knows, Dina Lohan and her celebrity daughter were doing cocaine, reports Fox News.
The charges by the Lohans also want the segment on celebrity drug overdose be taken down on Hannity’s website too.
It was not clear how much the Lohans are asking for damages.
The Fox News spokesperson said that the network has vowed to defend the case to the fullest. He said that the remark about Lindsay and Dina Lohan were made on live television by a guest more than a year ago. The network reiterated that it has already removed the segment on its archives and also apologized on-air.
