Lindsay Lohan has been in the news a lot throughout her short career in the spotlight. She has been ticketed for reckless driving, contracted a disease from another country and is now in the news because she is planning to sue Fox for defamation. This week, Lindsay Lohan and her mother issued a lawsuit against Fox News Network, TV host Sean Hannity and commentator Michelle Fields for defamation in regards to a comment that Fields said that accused the Lohans of “doing cocaine” with each other.
The complaint, which was filed in New York state court and states that Fields made the comment on the Hannity Show on February 4th of last year. This was two days after Philip Seymour Hoffman died of a drug overdose. The comment came during a part of the show were the guests were talking about other celebrities that were lost early in life due to a substance abuse. The others mentioned were Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley and Amy Winehouse.
The Lohans claim that the comment that came from Fields meant that Lindsay Lohan was going to be joining the other celebrities on the list and that it was a “matter of fact” that they used cocaine together. The complaint stated that the comment suggested was an “irresponsible and malicious innuendo” that the 28 year old actress was going to join the celebrity “obituary list”. A comment that was sent in by the Fox New Network stated that because their legal team has not reviewed the complaint, the network cannot comment.
The complaint is seeking compensation for punitive damages for defamation and the intentional infliction of emotional distress, which is very common lawsuits like this. The complaint also added a statement asking the Fox be stopped from every airing that segment again. Lindsay Lohan has done her fair share of movies while growing up and the list includes popular ones like The Parent Trap and Mean Girls, but since then has been in the news more for her legal troubles and trips to various rehab programs.
According to the lawyer for Lindsay Lohan and her mom, the two filed the lawsuit just before the one year statute of limitations was about to run out. He also said that if people hear things on “TV or read something in the media, it should be truthful”. He claimed that Lindsay Lohan was on the road to restoring her career and getting back on track, so this is something that can be very hurtful to her.
