Lighter but More Powerful McLaren 675LT Supercar to Debut in Geneva Motor Show

The engineers of McLaren have topped themselves with the development of the McLaren 675LT supercar, which will be officially unveiled in the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March.

The McLaren 675LT is more powerful than the McLaren 650S supercar and is lighter than 100 kilograms too.

McLaren has been teasing its latest supercar for the last couple of weeks leading to the Geneva Motor Show even hinting that the 675LT will figuratively and literally give the latest Ferrari Sports Car a run for the money, notes MSN Auto.

McLaren has used the superb features of the 650S as the basis for its new automotive breakthrough in the 675LT, building its latest supercar with improved aerodynamics, less weight, and its devilish 666 maximum horsepower, reports C/Net.

An impractical car

If many has previously regarded the McLaren 650S as an extraordinarily impractical car as most people will find it hard to see it on the street, the British sports car manufacturer did itself better with the McLaren 675LT.

The supercar would also be difficult to see on the street because of the fact that only a few can afford it and also because it drives really fast that the car cruises in an open, traffic-free road in just a blip or a blink of an eye.

The McLaren 675LT is powered by a twin turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine similar to the 650S. However, it exudes maximum power of 666 horsepower, which is 25 horsepower more than the maximum muscle that can be dished off by the 650S. The McLaren 675LT can also go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 205 miles per hour.

The McLaren engineers have also found a way to shed approximately 220 pounds or 100 kilograms off the body weight of the 650S for the 675LT. The latest McLaren supercar has a total curb weight of only 2,711 pounds or 1,230 kilograms.

The lightness in the supercar’s weight is naturally due to the use of carbon fiber materials in most parts of the car including the rear bumper, the seat shells, among others.

Still legal to use on the road

Amid its supercar stature, McLaren has gotten the clearances from the appropriate authorities to make driving the 675LT legal, provided it is driven within the city speed limits of course.

McLaren said that 67% of the parts of the 650S were used in the design of the 675LT which explains the similar configuration of the two supercars including the two seats, the mid-mounted engine, and a number of design elements.

The LT on the name does not stand for ‘light’ but actually ‘long tail.’ Long tail has a rich history in the McLaren brand as it was previously used for its GT racing versions of its F1 model during the mid-90s.

The McLaren 675LT also has an airbrake that is 50% larger and better than that of the 650S. The airbrake for the supercar is a flap that deploys when braking, similar to the flap of an airplane, helping the car to slow down.
