LG Hints Apple Will Unravel iMac 8K with Super High Resolution Display Later in 2015

Apple is planning to roll out an iMac 8K with super high resolution display later this year. The information actually came from Korean tech company LG, which shall be supplying the 8K screens, dubbing it as the future of display technology.

The 8K screens will have a 7680 x 4320-pixel resolution Retina display which will be the best when it comes out in the global markets towards the end of the year.

It’s a major leap from the 5K Retina display that Apple used on its 27-inch iMac as well as in its new 12-inch Apple MacBook launched just last month.

A reputable source

Although Apple has yet to formally announce the details and plans for the possible launching of the iMac with Retina 8K display this year, LG is also a very reputable source since the company has been the American tech giant’s biggest partner when it comes to displays, so it’s like the Korean tech company has somehow confirmed it the product on Apple’s behalf, notes Gadgets NDTV.

LG also developed the screen used for the iMac with Retina 5K display so the fact that the Korean company made the hint means that the iMac wit Retina 8K is pretty much solid information.

The first 8K screen was shown off by LG during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 in February this year when it unravelled the 98-inch 8K Colour Prime Ultra HDTV.

The jump to super-high resolution displays

Apple was the first to make the major stride last year when it launched an iMac with 27-inch Retina 5K display featuring a 5120 x 2880-pixel resolution.

The Apple desktop sports a 14.7 million-pixel screen display, has faster CPU and graphics, a Fusion Drive, and Thunderbolt 2.

After Apple, HP and LG jumped into the bandwagon early this year by launching similar 5K display screens. HP launched its 5K IPS monitor called HP Z27q also during CES 2015.

On the other hand, LG also launched a 105-inch 5K Ultra HD (UHD) resolution TV set, featuring a 5120 x 2160 pixels resolution. The 5K panel TV also features an IPS display with a CineScope 21:9 aspect ratio and also sports a 7.2 channel audio with 150-watt speakers from Harmon/Kardon.

It is not clear when Apple will be exactly launching its iMac with 8K Retina display later this year. But based on its tradition or launching history, it appears that October 2015 is the most likely month when it could happen.

Apple launchings in September are normally meant for its flagship smartphones, and possibly the latest iOS from the American tech giant. October launchings, on the other hand, are usually assigned for the iPads, the desktops and the desktop operating systems. The iMac with 8K Retina display is obviously a desktop so the date is really plausible.
