Left 4 Dead 3 Supposedly Higher Priority Than Half-Life 3 for Valve!

Valve haven’t really been very active on their game development front lately, and the studio seems mostly focused on Steam right now. They are probably right to do that too, seeing as how the service accounts for a major part of the PC gaming market and they are in a very prominent position because of it. At the same time, some of their fans have been hoping that Valve would come out with a new game soon, as it’s been getting very difficult for them to see their favorite franchises collect dust and fade into obscurity as Valve are focused on “Counter-Strike” and “Dota”.

“Left 4 Dead 3” has been rumored to be in development for quite a while, but we have no idea if the game really is coming anytime soon or not. There have additionally been various rumors about it, some a bit more outrageous than others, including certain rumors that have strong implications about the game’s gameplay and graphics. It could be an interesting release, not just as a new installment in the “Left 4 Dead” franchise, but in the context of the entire industry as a whole.

One of the things we’ve been hearing more and more often lately is that the game might be released before “Half-Life 3” as Valve are more focused on the zombie franchise at the moment. Still, this doesn’t specify anything about the actual release date of either game, and it’s entirely possible that they are both coming at a distant point in the future.

There have been some rumors regarding “Left 4 Dead 3” for a long time, even since a leak of some screenshots allegedly showing Valve’s internal bug tracking systems, in which we could see entries for that particular game. It was also implied that the game was being developed on Valve’s new Source Engine 2, but we don’t know if that’s true nor if it will be the first game to come out with that engine either.

Valve have already made a lot of progress in porting “Dota 2” to that new engine, so it’s not very likely that “Left 4 Dead 3” will be the debut of that title, although it’s certainly an interesting possibility and it could have some interesting implications for the engine and the franchise as a whole. Some people were expecting that Valve would bring out the new engine together with “Half-Life 3”, but at this point it might not make too much sense for them to delay its release that long.

After all, there is probably a long time to go before “Half-Life 3” arrives to the market, if the game is even in active development, and the current version of Source 2 could become largely irrelevant by that point. Because of this, Valve might want to bring out the engine sooner and work on the next “Half-Life” game on the side in an unconnected manner if they want to keep all their releases relevant to the current trends.

But it might not make too much sense to even talk about “Half-Life 3” at this point, as it’s not only expected that the game will take a long time to complete, but many people are not even convinced it’s going to come out at all. No matter how long we wait, it’s possible that this particular title will never leave Valve’s offices and we won’t see how the story ends for various reasons.

  1. I’m done with Valve, they obviously don’t care about their fans any more. I’ve been Googling Left 4 Dead 3 a few times a week for pretty much the last four years for crying out loud,..I know I’m not the only one, can’t they see there’s a massive demand for it?

  2. @Onfirea Your not the only one, I’m always on google and youtube searching for a glimmer of hope for this game. It’s seems as though they’ve completely abandoned it. They are so rich they couldn’t care less about what the l4d fans want. It’s been 6 years and…nothing. It’s not just you, ALOT of people want this game, and if they actually got off their asses and made it, it would be a really good move. They thought they were rich now, they’d be trillionaires.
