Elio Motors has plans to test a vehicle’s heating systems and air-conditioning. It is worth wondering how the company will manage to simulate the 110 degrees temperatures in the pleasant Pacific-Northwest. The three-wheeled vehicle startup company is having its HVAC systems made by Seattle-based RedDOT Corp.
One of the E-series engineering and testing vehicles has been shipped to Emerald City. There, the trike will undergo testing for ventilation, heating, and air-conditioning.
Meanwhile, the company is running quite behind schedule since 2014 was initially designated to be its debut year. However, the company has continued to advance and has built two dozen vehicles for testing purposes.
Some of the vehicles are being tested in Michigan for checking their anti-lock braking systems. Meanwhile, in Seattle, the vehicles will undergo testing at temperatures ranging up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Elio Motors was founded in 2009, and latest estimates suggest that the vehicle will enter production next year.
The three-wheeler vehicle gets about 84 miles per gallon and will come at a price of $7300 for people who hold the non-refundable reservations. Earlier, the price was listed to be $6800. As of last month, 56000 people had lined up.
There was some good news in summer when the company obtained that 41 out of 50 US states will not require customers to get a motorcycle license to drive these three-wheeled vehicles. Elio managed to change the decision for 30 such states and ease the requirements needed for driving their upcoming vehicle.
It includes seatbelts, airbags, air-conditioning and heating systems. The company’s fourth and final design stage was completed this spring. The higher-end E1C vehicle from Elio will be showcased at the LA motor show in November.
Elio Motors managed to raise funds for its upcoming vehicle in several innovative ways. It includes Regulation A+ stock offerings. The latest creating finding from this company is its new reservation system.
The people who put their money down for the non-refundable ‘All-In’ reservation will have their purchase price locked at $7300. Keep in mind that the phrasing can get a bit tricky here. The locked-in price is designated for non-refundable reservations that were made after 12th August.
It will continue to apply to around 65000 complete reservations have been made. On the books, the vehicle has around 58,000 reservations so far. Therefore, there are less than 7000 to go till the company’s target is reached.
Moreover, anyone who selects the non-refundable reservation will receive an additional 25% of their amount applied during the purchase of the vehicle. Therefore, if you have reserved an Elio for a thousand dollars, during the point of sale, you will have another $250 applied.
The company is hoping that their 65000 reservation-target number will help in their loan application with the Department of Energy Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM). The program exists to assist the manufacturer of vehicles which meet the particular fuel-economy ratings. That is unlikely to be the Elio’s sticking point.
The vehicle is expected to have figures of 84mpg. Since last year, the company has managed to raise 17 million dollars through Regulation A+ stock listings and more 20 million dollars through crowdfunding and the place in line reservations. Elio Motors have planned to manufacture their three-wheeler vehicles in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Meanwhile, a lot of people are still quite skeptical about Elio Motors and rightfully so, since the eventual release of their three-wheeled car has been pushed back many times.
Thankfully, the latest reports from the company provide us hope regarding the start of its production. Reports have emerged that the company plans to test the heating and air-conditioning systems of their vehicle. It clearly means that the production phase is drawing near.
