When it comes to carting around your entire family, it is always nice to be able to do so with one vehicle. Today’s models of sport utility vehicles are getting a little smaller compared to the days when Suburbans and Yukons were roaming the streets and chewing through gas like nothing. One problem that smaller SUV’s pose to consumers is that they do not have enough room, but that is not the case for at least one new model that is coming from Land Rover next year.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport is going to come with enough room for 7 adults. There are few consumer passenger vehicles that can boast the same specs and that includes keeping everyone safe as well. According to safety test results that are posted online, the Discovery Sport scored an 82% for safety assist, which is much higher than the 66% the Porsche Mecan scored in the same test. As tested, the Discovery Sport can get you 44mpg and a top speed of 117mph and that is from a 9-speed gearbox.
Those that have had the chance to give it a drive over in the United Kingdom are posting positive reviews about how it handles and drives so that is expected to be the case when it launches in the United States. The new Land Rover includes an electric steering system that some were eager to review because the last model did not pass with flying colors.
The Discovery Sport, however was reviewed as having great “alertness and sensitivity” when it came to the new style of steering systems. In the past, the electric steering systems have been labeled as “dead”. It appears that when designing the new model, Land Rover took good car in making sure that it did not resemble any previous model and that was noted in a couple of the online reports. In a first for Land Rover the 2015 Discovery Sport features an Autonomous Emergency Braking system.
The new braking system monitors the road ahead via mirror mounted camera and alert the driver of potential hazards by sound first. If the vehicle senses that no action is taken, it will start to brake automatically to avoid the hazard. The new steering system and braking system are partnered up with pedestrian airbags, dynamic stability control, lane departure warning, reverse traffic detection, traffic sign recognition, electronic traction control and the typical seat belt warning indicators making the Discovery Sport one of the safest vehicles from Land Rover.
