Kim Kardashian and rapper-husband Kanye West travelled from Armenia to Israel just to have their 22-month-old daughter North baptized in a Jerusalem ceremony.
Accordingly, North underwent baptismal rites at the Cathedral of St. James in the historic Armenian Quarter of the Israeli metropolis’ Old City, details Yahoo! News.
The Cathedral of St. James actually dates back to the 12th century so when North was baptized in the church, it was quite a historic affair.
Paying respects
The Kardashians recently travelled to Armenia to pay homage to their roots and humble beginnings where they also made a courtesy call to the country’s Prime Minister Hobik Abrahamyan.
The Armenian prime minister lauded the Kardashians, who were represented then by Kim and Khloe, for being proud as Armenians in the US and for not keeping their real roots a secret. Elder sister Kourtney was not able to make the trip since she finds travelling along with her three kids too stressful.
From Armenia, Kim, Kanye and Khloe flew to Jerusalem and the baptism of North was held on Monday, April 13.
A source close to Kim and Kanye said that the decision to have North baptized in Jerusalem was a dream come true for the couple because they have long wished to visit the Holy Land, which happens to be quite close to Armenia.
An epic baptism
The source also added that the baptism was such an epic, it was so beautiful. Khloe stood as godparent to North during the baptism rite.
Archbiship Aris Shirvanian, an Armenian church official confirmed that the family had arrived for a baptism ceremony in Jerusalem.
Prior to the start of the baptism, Shirvanian said that Kim and Kanye’s daughter North West will be baptized and will become a Christian officially and a member of the Armenian church.
The Kardashians spent five days in Armenia where Kim and Khloe also participated in a number of high-profile activities. In addition to the courtesy call to the Armenian prime minister, they also visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan last April 10.
Prime Minister Abrahamyan’s office later issued a statement naming Kim and Khloe as the unofficial ambassadors of Armenian history.
Accordingly, the country’s top official lauded the contributions of the Kardashian family to the cause of international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian genocide, which was highlighted by the family’s visit in the run-up to the genocide centennial.
From Jerusalem, the family of Kanye, Kim and newly-baptized North West arrived in Paris, France on April 14 and it looks as if North was very happy about the whole thing because she was smiling brightly as she sat in her pram when they arrived in the Paris airport.
The family of three arrived in Paris after North was baptized in Jerusalem and they had completed a tour of the Old City, as well as Kim’s home nation of Armenia.
