Kidney stones are more common in women and affect a large number of people between the age of 30 and 60 years. They are medically called nephrolithiasis and can be a rather painful medical condition.
Kidney stones are formed when waste materials in the blood form crystals inside the kidney. These tiny crystals soon become stones and cause problems. Medical reports say that kidney stones are formed for not drinking adequate amounts of water, by certain medications and for having urinary problems.
The body tends to eliminate them through the bladder, and this causes them to pass through the kidney and renal ducts and get stuck in there.
A study carried out at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, has come out with a finding that says that women with kidney stones have a higher risk of coronary heart diseases. They carried the test with diverse people from every cross section of the society.
The reason for this potential risk, doctors believe is the subsidiary problems that arise out of kidney stones formation. Those suffering from kidney stone tend to show syndromes of metabolic issues, obesity, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. Many patients with kidney stone, especially those having uric acid stones, have a higher chance of diabetes and low glucose tolerance.
Kidney stones also lead to the increase in the calcium in the coronary arteries which subsequently cause buildup of calcium in renal tubules. These apart from the deficiency of pyrophosphates, which prevent calcium buildup are the connecting link between kidney stone and coronary heart diseases.
Kidney stones can cause a lot of problems, and it is better to avoid them altogether. Here are some dietary plans that will help you prevent the formation of stones in your kidney.
Doctors recommend that eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, along with fibrous food products like pulses and beans can reduce the risk of kidney stones. Incorporating these in the daily dietary supplements cut down the potential risk to a large extent.
There is however certain food that are rich in oxalates, which are not recommended. These create compounds that cause kidney stones when they mix with calcium. Reduce the consumption of food items like chocolate and tea, and fruits like rhubarb, beetroot, and spinach.
Protein is good for the body, but consuming too much of it causes an increase in the acid in the urine which again favors formation of kidney stones.
Do not cut out the food items that can cause stones, but limit their consumption. Drink plenty of water as lack of it is a primary cause of kidney stones. Consult your doctor for any health and diet related queries.
