Kelly Osbourne nearly resigned from the “Fashion Police” TV show on E! had “KC Undercover” star Zendaya and host Giuliana Rancic did not smoke the peace pipe over the alleged racist comments made by Rancic on Zendaya’s dreadlocks she wore at the Oscars red carpet on February 22.
During the February 23 episode of “Fashion Police,” one day after the Oscars, Giuliana Rancic described Zendaya’s dreadlocks by saying that she feels that the actress-singer smells like patchouli oil or weed.
That really riled up the 18-year-old actress-singer who has been a guest in “Fashion Police” for a couple of times in the past and also a friend of co-host Kelly Osbourne.
Zendaya posted a lengthy rhetoric against Giuliana Rancic on her Twitter account alluding to the host’s comments as racist. Rancic immediately apologized to Zendaya also on Twitter and explained that her comment on the show was in no way meant to discriminate anybody.
Multiple takes?
Following the brouhaha over the comments made by Rancic on Zendaya’s dreadlocks, reports have sprung up that the taped episode of “Fashion Police” on February 23 featuring the commentary of Giuliana had three takes, details US magazine.
The report said that Giuliana could have avoided the fiasco had she listened to Kelly Osbourne when the latter said during the show’s taping that she should not make such statement against Zendaya.
Osbourne also reminded Giuliana that Zendaya is a friend of the “Fashion Police” show and her friend too. But apparently, Rancic was determined to say her commentary during the show.
It took that portion of the show three takes before it was finally completed while Kelly Osbourne had her reservations all along about that part of the show.
An insider to the show confirmed the protestation of Osbourne and the three takes before Rancic was able to perfect her infamous comment of “smells like patchouli oil or weed” right in front of a live audience of about 30 people. The show producers also gave it a go, the insider said, that when it blew up on their faces, Kelly Osbourne started contemplating of leaving the show.
A representative of E! network later on denied that there were multiple takes because there was only one. But the same representative confirmed that Kelly Osbourne did remind Rancic and the production team that Zendaya is her friend.
Righting the wrong
Kelly Osbourne threatened to quit the show if the wrong that has been done was not corrected.
So following her apology on Twitter, Giuliana Rancic subsequently made an on-air apology during E! News on February 24, which was graciously accepted by Zendaya on February 25.
Osbourne lauded the moves on the part of Rancic and Zendaya by tweeting that it takes strong women to apologize and forgive because they become even stronger. She ended her tweet by noting #ThisTooShallPass, details Gossip Cop.
With the issue behind them already, it looks like Kelly Osbourne will stay on as co-host to “Fashion Police.”
