English actress Keira Knightley, who shot to fame from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie series starting in 2003 where she portrayed the role of Elizabeth Swann, reveals that her mother misspelled her name in her birth certificate and came out the way it is now.
Accordingly, her father wanted to name her Kiera instead of Keira but her mother goofed up with the spelling so her parents decided to stay with it as it’s already written on paper.
The 29-year-old actress said that her father wanted to name her Kiera after seeing a Russian ice skater on TV one day but her mother interchanged the ‘i’ and the ‘e’ during the registration process so she was stuck with her name forever, she laughingly told a British magazine during a recent interview, reports Yahoo! News.
She disclosed that it was a big issue before between her father and mother but eventually the family learned to accept it and just joked about it.
Started young as an actress
Keira started young as an actress, making her film debut in 1995 with the movie “Innocent Lies.”
She has since made over 30 movies including her latest and award-winning performance in the critically-acclaimed “Imitation Game” shown last year where Keira garnered 12 nominations for best performance by a supporting actress and already winning two of those.
Keira is expected to get nominated from eight more award-giving bodies for playing the role of Joan Clarke in the “Imitation Game,” indicating how multi-talented she has become.
She has completed filming for “Everest” which is scheduled for release this year.
Preparing to be a mother
Keira is now preparing for the birth of her first child with husband James Righton and initial reports indicate that the couple is expecting a baby girl to come by very soon this year.
Because of the anecdote how her mother got her name or the spelling of her name wrong, Keira is said to be thinking about various names for her baby but does not want to reveal it until the baby is born.
For starting very young as an actress, she feels that she was deprived of the normal life of a child or a teenager and wished that she did not achieve fame at a very young age. She said that as an actress, she is afraid to commit mistakes especially in public where it might be caught in camera by photographers.
She is also a non-conformist type of person and does not like following certain protocols like what children normally does in school. Keira believes that a person can do whatever he or she wants for as long as it makes him or her happy and for as long as it is not illegal or he or she does not step on other people’s toes.
