Katy Perry Sets Record For Australia Tour, And More!

Katy Perry just left Australia and the tour is one that will not be forgotten anytime soon. Katy Perry is one of the most popular musicians of the last few years and it did not surprise that many that her tour was going to sell thousands of tickets and break records at the same time. The tour made a stop at Sydney’s Allphnoes Arena for the weekend and it was there that the musician broke a record.

In normal fashion, Katy Perry sold more than 350,000 tickets to a combined 23 shows throughout the country. According to at least one source, her tour through Australia will not be beaten by any other group. The promoter that took care of Katy Perry’s tour claimed that fans in the country would have “easily” purchased tickets for another 12 shows. At the Allphones Arena alone, Perry played just 6 shows and sold more than 89,000 tickets. The last record was help by One Direction with just 81,000 tickets sold for 7 shows last year.

Katy Perry was presented a plaque and a bike for selling so many tickets. The plaque will be permanently placed outside of the arena for all to see as they enter. The show’s promoter is not new to selling out huge shows at the venue. In fact, Paul Dainty has produced major shows in Australia for acts like Eminem, Michael Buble, Lionel Richie, Queen and Miley Cyrus all over the last 12 months. All of those shows were great, but Katy Perry’s Prismatic tour was a step above all of them.

All of the shows were sold out within 2 days of going on sale in March, according to one source. As soon as the show sold out, ticket websites noted that there were at least 40,000 people on various sites still trying to get the tickets. Those 40,000 fans could have brought more than a dozen more shows, which says a lot about the popularity of Katy Perry. Her new album was announced on Friday morning and sold more than 350,000 units.

Her lead single, called Roar, went platinum more than 11 times and is now the biggest hit on the Billboard charts and took over the number one spot by Perry’s “Firework” which was 9 times platinum. Katy Perry has had quite a year for 2014 and even though the Super Bowl is next year, it will just be the exclamation point on her already mega star career. Katy Perry was announced as the half time show back in November and is expected to draw a huge audience for the show on February 1st.
