Cristiano Ronaldo is the best football player in the world today. Unless one is a die-hard fan of Argentinian Lionel Messi currently playing for Barcelona, it’s really hard to argue about how good the Portuguese footballer is notwithstanding his record-breaking contract with Real Madrid.
However, it seems that Ronaldo has been on a slump lately, but only by his standards. And uncharacteristically, Real Madrid fans want him to take a backseat to French striker Karim Benzema who is playing very well right now.
In fact, former Barcelona defender Eric Abidal believes that Real Madrid’s most important player right now is Karim Benzema and not Cristiano Ronaldo.
Abidal is actually hoping that Barcelona would bid for the services of the French striker once his contract ends with Real Madrid.
Prolific scorers
Benzema has been a prolific scorer for Real Madrid. He has scored 40 goals in 20 appearances for the European champion this season. His total goal scored is bested only by Ronaldo’s 41 strikes at this point of the season.
The French striker is actually playing second fiddle to Ronado and Gareth Bale who operate on either side of Benzema during the game.
Abidal said that if he is given the choice to pick somebody from Real Madrid whom he would want to play with Barca, he said that he will pick Benzema outright. He said that Benzema is the man whom he would sign and play for Barcelona.
The Barcelona ex-defender also said that if Benzema is taken away from Real Madrid, the team would still continue scoring goals, because of Bale and Ronaldo, but they would not be able to score a lot if Benzema is not there.
Complete player
Abidal describes Karim Benzema as a complete player. He said that if he has the power or authority to sign one player in the league whom he would like to play for Barcelona, he said that it would be Benzema.
That is of course in addition to the fact that Benzema is a friend and compatriot of Abidal, cites Yahoo! Sports.
Abidal is predicting that his former team Barcelona would win in the Sunday’s Clasico match with Real Madrid. He also thinks that Barca’s triumvirate of forwards will each score during the game, referring to Neymar da Silva Santos, Lionel Messi, and Luis Suarez. He would also like to see Javier Mascherano get a goal for Barca during the game.
The former Barcelona player said that the game will finish with a score of 3-1 in favor of Barca. He added that his former team is doing much better now compared during the start of the season where Barca had to struggle a bit. He said that the onset of 2015 has brought good things for Barcelona which he hopes will continue until season’s end.
