Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, along with the music industry is mourning the loss of “The Voice” contestant Christina Grimmie.
The 22-year-old singer was gunned down by a deranged fan on June 10 following a performance at the Plaza Live Theater in Orlando, Florida.
She was just signing autographs for fans after her show with boy band Before You Exit when the gunman approached her and shot her at close range.
Grimmie’s brother tackled the suspect after shooting her sister. The gunman, named Kevin Loibl, apparently was determined on shooting Grimmie that night. No other person got hurt, but Loibl shot himself afterward.
Grimmie, first came to popularity through her YouTube videos singing her own renditions of songs, mash-ups, and even collaborating with fellow YouTube stars. She then joined NBC’s “The Voice” Season 6 under Adam Levine’s coaching. She placed third overall in the competition during that season.
Justin Bieber broke down in front of his fans during a show earlier this week at the MTS Center in Winnipeg, Canada while paying tribute to the murdered songstress. Bieber honored the YouTube star during an emotional performance of the title track from his album.
Some fans captured a video of Bieber shouting ‘Grimmie, can you hear me?’ in between a soaring moment during his rendition of “Purpose.”
According to Hollywood Life, the “Sorry” singer was so overcome with emotions that he couldn’t help but cry in front of his fans.
EW reports that Bieber met Grimmie through ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, whose stepfather was Grimmie’s manager.
For her part, Gomez sang Hillsong Worship’s “Transfiguration” during a show in Miami over the weekend. Selena even broke down in tears and says that Christina was just like a sister to her and that she still couldn’t believe the news.
According to Rolling Stone, the “Hands to Myself” singer was singing “Nobody” at the American Airlines Arena when she suddenly broke down in tears. She then revealed that she had just found out about Grimmie’s murder.
Selena apologized to her fans and then recalled her history with Grimmie saying that she met her when she was 14 and her dad signed her in because of her great talent and great personality.
She went on saying the one thing about Christina and her family, is that she holds her faith so closely to her.
The “Monte Carlo” star adds that it’s not about her religion and it’s not about good deeds. It’s just she had faith. Selena said that she doesn’t really understand how the murder happened.
Other singers paid tribute to Grimmie through their shows. Before You Exit, who was with Christina the night of her murder, released a statement that the world has lost an angel and they are deeply saddened by what happened.
Charlie Puth dedicated his hit song “See You Again” during his show Saturday night. Fifth Harmony shouted out to her at the WBLI Summer Jam on Saturday as well. The girls offered a moment of silence in between their show for prayers to Christina and her family. They went on saying that Christina was nothing but nice to them.
Kesha also honored Grimmie and her love ones during the Pride celebration in Pittsburgh while Rachel Platten, who toured with Grimmie earlier this year, remembered the singer onstage in New York before singing “Fight Song” in her honor.
Meanwhile, “The Voice” judge Adam Levine has offered to pay for Grimmie’s funeral expenses. Grimmie’s brother, Marcus wrote on his Facebook page that the Maroon 5 lead singer personally contacted his mother to offer financial aid.
Levine has expressed his sadness and shock towards the incident adding that even his wife, Behati Prinsloo, couldn’t believe the news.
