It looks like the romance of Barry Allen and Iris West that is now happening in Season 3 of the American superhero drama TV series “The Flash” on The CW will be carried over to the big screen with the upcoming superhero ensemble film “Justice League” from Warner Bros.
One thing is clear at this point is that Grant Gustin, who plays as Barry Allen and The Flash in the TV series, will not be reprising the character in the movie version as that prized role has already been given to Ezra Miller, with his brief cameo in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” shown in March this year.
Thus, Candice Patton, who plays the role of Iris West on the TV series, shall not be reprising the character in the big screen as well. Apparently, the role will be played by Kiersey Clemons.
But since “Justice League,” which is due to hit global theaters on November 17, 2017, is a superhero ensemble movie, the Scarlet Speedster will not be entirely the front and center of the film.
As such, Kiersey Clemons taking on the Iris West role would just be a cameo. And she and Ezra Miller would have to wait for the stand-alone “The Flash” movie in 2018 before the two of them and their romance can really take the limelight in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
Kiersey Clemons’ role as Iris West may be approximately the same as that of Mera, to be played by Amber Heard, the Queen of Atlantis and the wife of Aquaman, notes IGN.
The character Iris West was first introduced in the 1956 comic book Showcase #4 as a tough-as-nails journalist and the love interest of the second Flash, Barry Allen.
Shakeup in ‘The Flash’ solo movie
There are rumors saying that with the recent departure of Rick Famuyiwa as director for “The Flash” solo movie to hit theaters in 2018, Kiersey Clemons may no longer agree to take on the role of Iris West in the standalone film.
Accordingly, the reason why Clemons agreed to take on the role of Iris West is because of Famuyiwa, whom she had the opportunity to work together in the hit independent film “Dope” in 2015, notes Cinema Blend.
However, critics are saying that if Clemons wants to see her stock as an actress go up, she should not waste a precious opportunity of being given a role in the DCEU as it would be good for a number of film projects and not just a couple.
For now, Clemons is confirmed for “Justice League” after she was spotted filming recently as Iris West. Her presence and that of Amber Heard’s Mera have made the supporting cast of “Justice League” a bit larger.
A massive DCEU film
“Justice League” is to be the fifth movie in the DCEU following “Man of Steel” in 2013 and “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad” this year, and “Wonder Woman” to be shown on June 2 next year.
Zack Snyder will be directing “Justice League” and it will be a continuity of his first two films in the DCEU, namely “Man of Steel” and “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
Just like “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Justice League” is a massive DCEU film and would feature an ensemble cast including Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.
In terms of plotline, following the death of Superman at the end of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” Batman and Wonder Woman assemble a team consisting of The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg to face the catastrophic threat of Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons.
Steppenwolf is the main villain of “Justice League” and he is tasked with hunting down the three Mother Boxes on Earth located in Atlantis, Themyscira, and one that is now a part of the character Cyborg.
Warner Bros has reportedly chosen an actor for the role but the production company or director Zack Snyder or any of the cast members are keeping things under wraps so as to avoid potential spoilers that could have a negative impact on the film’s box office results next year.
