‘Jurassic World’ Release Date, Cast & Plot: Will the Film Be Universal’s Next $1 Billion Movie

As promotions build up for the showing of “Jurassic World,” the fourth installment to the “Jurassic Park” movie franchise, there is currently a notion that it could be Universal Pictures’ next $1 billion film.

The Motley Fool reports that the first “Jurassic Park” movie is the only film in Universal Pictures’ record books to have exceeded $1 billion in gross box office receipts when it was shown back in 1993.

The film actually netted $402.5 million in the US market alone. Even if inflation is considered, the box office haul of “Jurassic Park” in the US ranks third for all-time PG-13 films, trailing only “Titanic” and “Avatar.”

The next two Jurassic Park movies were not as successful as the first one. The follow-up film in 1997 “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” grossed ‘only’ $618.6 million while the third movie “Jurassic Park III” in 2001, was dismal when compared to its predecessors, netting only $368.8 million worldwide.

The movie’s production budget is a jaw-dropping $150 million, spent mostly on the latest and most modern CGI or computer-generated images and its powerhouse casting.

Nonetheless, “Jurassic World” is expected to relive the success of the prehistoric and dinosaur franchise, 22 years after it was first introduced to moviegoers worldwide, and 13 years since the last film.

Movie posters, plot and cast

Following the release of its official trailer in the first week of December, Universal Pictures has also released the movie poster on theaters a few days ago which continue to put fans in a guessing game about what to expect in the film.

Enstarz reports that a new one-sheet “Jurassic World” poster is currently spreading in theaters worldwide to drumbeat the upcoming movie less than six months before its actual showing.

But the poster actually offers nothing much since it is basically the original logo of the first three movies and the only thing new is the current titleof “Jurassic World.”

This is actually the second movie poster for the film. The first one was released on October 14 by director Colin Trevorrow, which only hinted of ominous things with words “The Park is Open.”

The film is about the corporate desire of an already functioning dinosaur theme park called “Jurassic World” to entice more visitors that went horribly haywire. By haywire, it most likely mean a T-Rex just like in previous Jurassic Park movies.

The park is situated in Isla Nublar, the same site of the original Jurassic Park put up by John Hammond 22 years ago.

A collaboration between Legendary Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, Chris Pratt topbills the film as Owen, Bryce Dallas Howard as Beth, Ty Simpkins as Gray, along with Judy Greer, Nick Robinson and David Oyelowo.

Jurassic World

Trevorrow helms from the screenplay written by himself along with best-selling author Michael Crichton and three others.

The “Jurassic Park” franchise is based on Crichton’s series of novels about the a revolutionary gene technology breathing new life to pre-historic dinosaurs, which history indicates, have never mingled with humans.
