“Jurassic World” has been out for a while and the film was quite successful, both in the box office as well as among critics/fans. Sure, there were some old-school fans of the franchise who felt like the producers got the general idea wrong, but those voices are always there any time a long-running franchise is continued, especially when more drastic changes are introduced. And now that the film has been out for a while and people have generally calmed down about it, there have already been talks of a sequel.
“Jurassic World 2” is apparently going to take quite a serious inspiration from the original “Jurassic Park”, and the producers are looking to get back to the roots of the series. Colin Trevorrow, director of “Jurassic World”, admitted that the film was already inspired quite heavily from “Jurassic Park” – which was obvious enough to fans of the franchise – but according to him, even more can be done to bring the film closer to what originally drew so many people in.
Trevorrow also explained that various decisions about the design and production direction of the new film were directly driven by the themes prevalent in the original, such as the constant product placement and the overall setting of the film. He claimed that he saw some messages in “Jurassic Park” which were important to be expanded on, and that’s what he was trying to do with “Jurassic World”.
And now the director has an even sharper idea about what he wants to do with the sequel of the film which is going to push those ideas even further and expand upon them. It sounds like “Jurassic World 2” is going to set itself apart from its predecessor in some ways, and fans will have to get used to some new themes being emphasized this time. However, anyone who was fond of the original “Jurassic World” and the films before that should definitely enjoy what they’re seeing, according to Trevorrow.
The director seems convinced that this is what people want to see too – according to him, the audience wants even more changes and experiments with the film, even though there were some claims of the opposite, with some people stating that Trevorrow should cut down on the changes and stick to the original formula more. It looks like he’s planning to truly dig into the core of the franchise and figure out what makes it work, and while it’s probably going to take a lot of effort to do that, we’re confident that he’ll pull it off correctly.
Many original contributors to “Jurassic World” will be coming back for the sequel, according to reports, so fans will be treated to a very nice package. On the other hand, various new talent will be brought on board as well, and of course with all these talks of more experimentation in the new film, we expect to see more actors and more special effects all over the screen.
What are those more special themes that the director wants to explore in the new film though? According to him, it’s about the connection between men and beasts, something which he claims was always a major theme in the “Jurassic” franchise, even though most people didn’t immediately realize it. Indeed, most of the franchise’s fans were usually focused on either the horror aspect, or the representation of dinosaurs and all the details about the various species on the screen.
