Johnny Maziel refuses to accept that his stint with the NFL is over. Manziel became a famous face after winning the Heisman Trophy back in 2012 when he led the Texas A&M Aggies into a record 11-2 record. The team finished fifth in the whole country, and the young player won the most coveted individual college football award.
Manziel entered the NFL Draft in 2014 and it goes down as a memorable one since the Browns and the Cowboys both wanted Manziel on their side. CBS Sports reported that the president of the Cowboys, Stephen Jones had snatched the draft card containing Manziel’s name from GM, Jerry Jones’ hand.
Manziel’s entry into the Cowboys worked for the team since he became a dominating offence, which made sure that the Cowboys remained on the top of their game for the next three years.
Manziel’s career quickly went downhill after Cleveland Browns dropped him from the team in March of last year. He was asked to head to a rehabilitation center in Pennsylvania for ten weeks. Johnny Manziel came back vowing that he would remain sober, but then backtracked on his promise saying that he never said that he wouldn’t drink ever.
According to TMZ, Johnny Manziel was on vacation in Cabo San Lucas when he again decided to become sober, but that clearly didn’t last a long time. He has now come out to state that he was doing pretty well.
Washington Post reported that the footballer that friends and family to support him. He again said that he wasn’t going to stop drinking forever, but was focusing on becoming healthy and active. He mentioned that he was working out at the gym.
Johnny Manziel had said last year that among different things he wanted to do in his life, football was crucial. However, given the circumstances, he needed time and was waiting to out to see what the future held for him.
Daily Mail reported that since his ousting by Brown, Manziel had started partying and would stumble from one party to another. He was spotted at the Coachella and different rave clubs in LA. His health started deteriorating when his friends intruded and asked him to take steps to sober up.
Last June, Manziel was banned for four games since he broke the substance e abuse code of the NFL. The move seemed to have hit him hard since he decided to make things better. He refused to accept that his time with the NFL had come to an end and decided to sober up and get back on track.
Things didn’t seem to get better for Johnny Manziel since he was charged for assaulting his girlfriend, Colleen Crowley. She spoke about being hit and how he had threatened to kill her in January. Crowley even said that Manziel had restrained her, during one of the incidents where he had skipped practice to party.
Manziel was born a star. Even though he couldn’t complete his four-year contract with Browns, he is entitled to the $7.7 million out of the $8.245 million contract that was drawn up for him.
The gravity of his career coming to an end seemed to have dawned on Manziel. According to The Guardian, Manziel said that he wouldn’t let his entire life in sports get squandered because of his partying.
He admitted being sick of partying after he saw himself in the mirror one day and knew how he was wasting away his life. Manziel opened up to ESPN’s Ed Werder and said that he loves football and he realized things the hard way.
