Actor Johnny Depp officially quashed rumors that went around late last month that he is being removed from the fifth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie after producers supposedly have had enough of his reported shenanigans in the set while filming the movie in Australia.
The 52-year-old actor showed up in full costume as Captain Jack Sparrow during Disney’s D23 Expo held over the weekend in Anaheim, California, confirming that Johnny Depp is still on for “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”
In fact, the actor happened to have bumped into Hollywood icon Harrison Ford at the backstage during the event. Harrison Ford was at D23 Expo to help promote “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which will hit theaters on December 18, reports Entertainment Weekly.
Both “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” are Disney-produced films.
Ford was actually surprised to see Johnny Depp in full costume but eventually recognized him. The 72-year-old veteran actor is reprising his Han Solo role in the seventh installment in the “Star Wars” franchise and he came to the D23 Expo along with Director J.J. Abrams and fellow cast members including John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, and Lupita Nyong’o.
Lovable but wily
Johnny Depp showed up in the event as his lovable but wily character, Captain Jack Sparrow, in the upcoming “Pirates of the Caribbean” film which will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
Fresh from receiving a Disney Legend award from company CEO Bob Iger on August 14, Johnny showed up at the ultimate Disney fanatic event dressed as the roguish pirate. The event carried the theme “Worlds, Galaxies, and Universe: Live Action at The Walt Disney Studios,” details the Daily Mail.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie franchise began in 2003 and has already spawned three sequels, with a fourth one in the works, three video games, and three blooper reels. It has brought in $3.7 billion worldwide to Disney’s coffers, indicating how massive its success is.
Returning to the franchise
Also during the event, Disney confirmed recent reports that actor Orlando Bloom will be returning to the fifth movie of the franchise. The 38-year-old Bloom played the character Will Turner on the first three movies of the franchise but was not around for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” the fourth film of the series shown in 2011.
During a past interview, Bloom said that he shall be playing the character of Davy Jones in the fifth installment of the movie franchise so he is going to be down at the bottom of the ocean and he will no longer look like him. Fans of the film franchise will remember Davy Jones as the captain of the Flying Dutchman, which was originally played by Bill Nighy. He had tentacles on his face and had some scary mixture of aquatic features.
But Bloom was apparently joking in the interview because latest reports have it that part of the plot of the movie is Will Turner’s bonding with his son by Elizabeth, previously played by Keira Knightley. Turner’s son will be played by Brenton Thwaites.
There have been reports last month that filming of the fifth movie of the successful “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise has hit another major snag recently that had shooting in Australia grinding to a screeching halt.
Reports have it that Johnny Depp has been the main reason why shooting for “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” was disrupted anew as the actor has not been showing up in the set as of late and that he often comes either drunk or not in the mood at all to shoot.
According to rumors, Johnny is having problems with his newly-wedded wife Amber Heard and it has been affecting the 52-year-old actor big time.
