Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have finally agreed to divorce. The estranged couple has spent months trying to reach an agreement on the final terms of the divorce. BBC reported that the agreement was finally reached and Depp agreed to pay Heard around $7m, which she will donate to charities.
Aber Heard had filed a case of domestic violence against Johnny Depp. She said that Depp had been physically violent with her and had once ended up throwing a phone at her during an argument.
Depp and his attorney denied the charges. They said that Amber was making false allegations to make a financial profit from the defamation case. Even the police department, who investigated the incident, which Amber Heard reported last February, couldn’t find any evidence that would prove Depp guilty.
Amber Heard had filed a restraining order against Johnny Depp, but with the divorce settlement finalized in August, it was dropped soon after. The final divorce proceedings took some time since the lawyers couldn’t agree on whether Johnny Depp should pay the charities Heard plans on donating to, directly or not.
Heard had said that she would give the money from the divorce settlement to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
Legal aid on both sides celebrated the final announcement. Heard’s lawyer, Pierce O’Donnell said that it was a great day for his client since she had wanted the divorce and could finally get it. Laura Wasser, Johnny Depp’s lawyer, said that she was happy that Depp could finally finish the unfinished chapter and move on.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard entered another awkward phase when Depp asked her to share the legal bills with him. She ended up calling the move contemptible and shocking and said that it was outrageous of Depp to ask her to share the legal fees when she was clear in what she wanted, and it was his lawyers who couldn’t make a settlement.
She blamed Depp and her lawyers for delaying the settlement. Mirror reported that Amber Heard felt that Johnny Depp wanted to prolong the divorce settlement to try and punish her. She said that she always wanted a quick solution so that she could get back to her life.
Amber Heard has claimed that Johnny Depp didn’t live up to his obligations, which included payments and allowing her to keep her personal belongings. Heard had issues in the manner Depp transferred titles of a vehicle and also pointed at the unfair division of furniture and residential units.
The final terms of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard divorce will see Depp handing over $7m. Heard will end up keeping the couple’s dogs, Pistol and Boo, as well as their horse, Arrow.
Depp will have the exclusive right to the real estate properties including his properties in Paris, Los Angeles and his island in the Bahamas. Depp will continue being in possession of all of his 40 vehicles, which include a vast collection of vintage cars and motorcycles. New Magazine reported that Heard would get 2015 built Range Rover and a 1968 Ford Mustang.
Johnny Depp received the People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Movie Icon and while receiving the award, thanked his fans for standing by him in good and bad times. Depp directly hinted at the false accusations of domestic violence made by Amber Heard.
