John Boyega charmed the viewers with his role of Finn in The Force Awakens. His role of the wayward storm trooper who becomes a freedom fighter and joins the Empire won him the role in a different sci-fi universe.
Guillermo del Toro said that he was proud to welcome Boyega into the world of Pacific Rim. Boyega is set to portray the role of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost’s son from the original 2013 film. According to Variety, Guillermo del Toro said that John Boyega is the perfect leading man for Pacific Rim 2.
The film will portray a multicultural and multi-layered world, and Boyega is the perfect person to lead. Guillermo del Toro said that he couldn’t think of another actor to take up the role in Pacific Rim 2.
The aim of the franchise was to depict the world saving the world, and there couldn’t be a better man to fulfill this goal. The presence of John Boyega as Stacker Pentecost’s son confirms that Mako Maki will have a brother.
The viewers will now have to wait and watch to see if Mako Maki is drifting with John Boyega’s character. Pacific Rim had created complex characters, and Pacific Rim 2 will continue on the same path.
Not only will John Boyega be a part of Pacific Rim 2 as an actor, but also produce the film. He shared the information with the fans on Twitter. The fans are still coming to terms with the fact that Boyega has bagged the lead role in Pacific Rim 2.
The first film made it clear that Stacker didn’t have any children. Mako Maki is his adopted daughter and hence he wasn’t willing to let go of his only family. Mako Maki is one of the best fighters, but Stacker didn’t let her out in the field.
These speculations raised questions about what role John Boyega will fill in. If he is meant to be Stacker’s son, then where does he fit in the larger picture? Some fans have deduced that the film might bring in some angle of clones and mad science with kaiju tissue. However, there aren’t any official confirmation on the plot for Pacific Rim 2.
Pacific Rim saw humans fighting against a giant creature called Kaiju. The inspiration for the creature was from the Japanese movie genre of the same name. For the fight against Kaiju, the humans used robots called Jaegers.
In the broader sense, the film depicted a battle between robots and lizards. Pacific Rim cost $200 million. While it didn’t do well in the US, it brought in $309 million from its overseas collection.
Apart from John Boyega, Pacific Rim 2 will have Adria Arjona in it. Adria Arjona, known for her role in True Detective, confirmed her role in Pacific Rim 2. However, she didn’t let out any information about what role she is set to play.
The actress is also set to play Dorothy Gale in the television adaptation of Wizard of Oz. She was roped in for The Belko Experiment by James Gunn and The Life of the Party as well.
iTech Post reported that Pacific Rim 2 has decided to go for rising stars instead of established actors since they can save on the expenses. The previous film wasn’t a hit in the US, and the producers aren’t taking a risk with Pacific Rim 2.
Charlie Hunnam who played the role of Jaeger pilot, Raleigh Becket confirmed that he wouldn’t be returning for Pacific Rim 2. Hunnam informed that he wouldn’t be coming back since he has a busy schedule.
Charlie Hunnam is busy with Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, which will release on 24th March 2017.
