The popularity of Jeremy Lin surpasses everyone’s expectations as he or his caricature version was taken in by Marvel Comics for its upcoming “Totally Awesome Hulk” comic book series that would be released in December, reports Slam Online.
It was actually New York-based comics writer Greg Pak, who was obviously a fan of Jeremy Lin and Linsanity since the 27-year-old Harvard graduate was still playing for the New York Knicks back in the 2011-12 NBA season, who decided on using the likeness of the character in the new Hulk comic books.
Pak said that he was in New York when Linsanity happened and it never stopped him from appreciating and adulating Jeremy Lin.
The comics writer will be writing the story while the interior art of the “Totally Awesome Hulk” comic books will be done by Luke Ross. The cover is to be drawn by Bernard Chang.
Pak said that he followed Jeremy Lin everywhere, referring to the Asian-American’s journey in the NBA from the Golden State Warriors, to the New York Knicks, to the Houston Rockets, to the Los Angeles Lakers, to the Charlotte Hornets, and finally to the Brooklyn Nets.
He said that he just loves the guy. At a certain point, he thought to himself that it would be really cool if the biggest Asian-American Marvel superhero meets the biggest American-Asian sports star.
The writer subsequently offered the idea to Jeremy Lin’s management people, sending over the basic outline of the story as well as some reading materials featuring Amadeus Cho, who made his debut as the Hulk in 2005 and was created by Pak and artist Takeshi Miyazawa.
One of the selling points to the NBA star is that it looks like Cho and Lin might have the same barber because of their hairstyles.
Kindred spirits
Lin said that he felt it an honor and a cool opportunity to become part of the Amadeus Cho’s “Totally Awesome Hulk” storyline. He said that it is great that Marvel is making real efforts to add diversity to its superheroes and their origin stories.
In the comic book series, the Hulk does not have Bruce Banner for its alter-ego but Korean American Amadeus Cho, so having Lin with him is quite logical. Pak has yet to disclose what Lin’s likeness in the comic book series will have for its role.
The new Hulk will have a lot of lessons to learn, and one of them will be taught by the new Brooklyn Nets starting point guard, notes CBS Sports.
That’s already one advantage that Jeremy Lin has over the Nets’ other star in Brook Lopez. Their combination in the team is being touted as Brook-Lin.
Different hairstyles for the next season
Aside from an entirely different team in the Brooklyn Nets, his sixth in his seven years in the NBA, Jeremy Lin shall reportedly be showcasing his new set of different hair styles once the 2016-17 NBA season gets underway.
Apart from his ‘Linsanity’ days with the New York Knicks during the 2011-12 NBA season, and for being a reliable sixth man on the bench of the Charlotte Hornets last year, one other thing that helps fans remember Lin on the court are his various hairstyles, which seems to have been his trademark.
As much as he gets criticisms for his kind of play on the court, he also gets a few verbal backlashes from fans when it comes to his hairstyles, some of which really look ridiculous.
He had his changing hairstyles up on display last season while playing for the Hornets and since the team went all the way to the Eastern Conference playoffs, Jeremy Lin’s hairdos were in the spotlight a little longer than expected.
But it looks like it would not be changing anytime soon as reports have it that the 27-year-old Harvard graduate is ready to sport his new hairdos as the starting point guard of the Brooklyn Nets comes the upcoming NBA season courtesy of his nephew, Jaden Peter Lim.
