Jason Voorhees of the “Friday the 13th” movie series fame is one of the most widely-anticipated playable characters of the fighting game “Mortal Kombat X.”
While gamers have been literally begging for him since “Mortal Kombat 9,” game developer NetherRealm announced early this year that Jason will finally make it to “Mortal Kombat X.”
But instead of coming with the game out of the box when it was officially released on April 14 for the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC, the Jason Voorhees character will instead be released as a DLC.
NetherRealm has just announced on April 23 that Jason Voorhees will finally arrive as a playable character on “Mortal Kombat X” when the game’s DLC arrives on May 5, reports Cinema Blend.
But Jason will become initially available for those who purchased the $30 Kombat Pack only. The character will arrive a week later or on May 12 for everyone else playing “Mortal Kombat X” on the PC and the next gen gaming consoles.
Test run
Jason is actually the first of a total of four DLC packs due to be released for “Mortal Kombat X” within the next couple of months.
Request for Jason Voorhees began in “Mortal Kombat 9” when NetherReal including Freddy Krueger from the popular horror movie series “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger, it can be recalled also had a film where they battle out each other.
Jason Voorhees will be part of “Mortal Kombat X” in May but there is no word yet from NetherRealm whether they will also bring back the character of Freddy Krueger into the latest iteration of the game.
But the most important news about the “Mortal Kombat X” DLC is that gamers will have the option to give the patch a test run before they commit to purchase it. So if they don’t like it at all, they can actually discard it and simply do away with it.
But some gamers believe that the strategy is a bit on the shrewd side since if NetherRealm really believes that the DLC was worth putting into the base game, then why did the developer still needs a patch for it. Of course, the answer is obvious since game development in itself is a business and everyone knows that, including fans and gamers.
Another most requested character
In addition to Jason Voorhees, another most requested playable character for “Mortal Kombat X” is the Predator from the popular but otherwise mishandled movie series, whose first movie starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Just like Jason Voorhees, the Predator is available in the $30 Kombat Pack and it’s also possible to purchase him as a playable character separately outside of the pack once NetherRealm officially makes him available to the general public.
There is still no hint yet as to what will be Jason Voorhees fighting style when he hits “Mortal Kombat X.” But in the movie, he usually does his killing with a machete. So as a playable character in the video game, he might also have the same plus some form of fighting style too.
