Jared Leto’s Latest Tease on Instagram Hints of Brutal Side of The Joker

It has been reported that Jared Leto has played his role of The Joker to near perfection in two upcoming DC movies next year – “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and the “Suicide Squad.”

Although basically a villain in both movies, it is expected that The Joker will turn into a good guy or perhaps do something good in the movie “Suicide Squad” because that is the essence of the film in the first place – incarcerated villains working for the government on a covert special mission in order to lessen their respective prison sentence.

However, it seems that The Joker’s small appearance in “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” would be both juicy and meaty. In the full-length trailer of the movie shown during the ComicCon 2015 last month, The Joker was never shown but he was felt. The Joker’s presence was really felt especially when the costume of Robin was shown with the handwritten graffiti that states ‘Haha. Joke’s on you Batman’ hinting that the Clown of Prince of Crime was responsible for the death of the Boy Wonder.

Jared Leto pretty much confirmed that his The Joker character would have a cameo appearance in “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” when he posted a photo on his Instagram account alluding to the an iconic scene in the comic novel titled “Batman: The Killing Joke” where the villain played a brutal menace.

Lauded and criticized

In the “Batman: The Killing Joke” comic novel, The Joker shot Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon, and was stripped naked even as he took pictures of her while suffering and bleeding. He then sent it to Commissioner Gordon whom he kidnapped later.

The 1988 graphic novel was written by Alan Moore and was both lauded and criticized because of the brutal and sexual components incorporated in the story. The comic novel has ultimately showcased the brutal side of the Clown Prince of Crime, notes Venture Capital Post.

Latest reports have it that actress Jena Malone will play the role of Barbara Gordon in “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” junking previous notions that she will play the female Robin.

It can be recalled that there have been previous reports that Commissioner Jim Gordon of the Gotham City Police department will already be dead at the movie. So his appearance in the film, just like that of Robin, will be primarily based on flashbacks, by Bruce Wayne or Batman most likely. The role of Robin has been reported to be played by Eli Snyder, the teenage son of Director Zack Snyder, who is helming the movie.

It is not clear if Jena Malone’s cameo role in the film will also be in the form of a flashback. The character of Jim Gordon has not been casted yet or there is no report about it thus far for the upcoming film.

The hint that fuelled the speculations

Jared Leto’s Instagram post showed a silhouette photo of him as The Joker wearing a hat that bears resemblance to the one worn by the villain in “Batman: The Killing Joke.”

But until Director Zack Snyder or anybody from the production team makes the confirmation or denial about “The Killing Joke” scene in “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” every information is a mere speculation at this time and should be taken with a grain of salt.

It is the second time that Jared Leto made an insinuation about The Joker who appeared in “Batman: The Killing Joke.” A few months ago, Leto also posted a photo of himself as the Clown Prince of Crime with green hair and holding a camera which also looked exactly like The Joker shown in the cover of “Batman: The Killing Joke” comic novel.

According to a report by NME, while the late Heath Ledger was previously the best one to deliver the most iconic performances as The Joker in the film “The Dark Knight,” it seems that Jared Leto has come up with a delivery to equal if not surpass Heath Ledger’s rendition of the popular villain.

When Ledger was about to take on the character, he reportedly locked himself up in a hotel for a month or so to galvanize The Joker in his own mind.

Jared Leto

Jared Leto also did the same as he totally immersed himself in the character and his craziness too. He had a crystal clear vision of The Joker’s mindset. Aside from sending roadkill to fellow cast members of “Suicide Squad” while they were filming the movie, Jared Leto obviously explored the character’s twisted psyche quite thoroughly already like it was really him.
