Jared Leto has been going quite deep in his method acting for “Suicide Squad”, where he’ll be taking on the iconic role of The Joker. Method acting is a technique that involves an actor getting into a role even outside of his work on the set, trying to convince himself that he really is the character he’s portraying. There is no single universal approach to the method, and each actor takes a different route, and in the case of Jared Leto, we’ve been hearing about some peculiar incidents lately.
One of the things he has apparently decided to do as part of his method acting for The Joker was to start sending out creepy gifts to his co-stars on the production. Among those was, reportedly, a pet rat that went out to Margot Robbie. The actress wasn’t really phased by the supposed creepiness of the gift however, as she has reportedly decided to keep it.
Margot Robbie will be playing Harley Quinn in the movie, The Joker’s sidekick – and considering the twisted nature of her own character, it might indeed be helpful to her to try some method acting techniques of her own.
And Robbie herself said something similar when talking about the situation in an interview – according to her, if Harley Quinn got something from The Joker, she would not only keep it but probably even cherish it as something precious, so it would only make sense for her to do the same with a gift she got from Leto. No matter how creepy that gift was – apparently, that only adds to the whole ordeal in a positive way.
Robbie has already given it a name – Rat Rat – and she has been feeding it organic berries and taking good care of it. From what we’ve heard, it sounds like she might be getting a bit more attached to the creature than we would have expected, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
The rat reportedly came in a small black box with a nice love letter attached to it, according to Adam Beach, who’ll be playing the role of Christopher Weiss (Slipknot) in the new film. He went on to describe it as “beautiful”, although we’re sure some fans might have a different view on a gift of this nature.
Will Smith, on the other hand, got a bunch of bullets, again with a letter included. It seems like everyone around Leto is about to get some interesting addition to their collection of memorabilia from their acting careers, and the actor has been making sure that his gifts are unique and… interesting, to say the least.
All in all, it seems like production work on the film is going great and everyone is having a good time behind the scenes. We haven’t heard any negative reports of incidents on the set, and so far everyone is apparently doing a good job, with a high degree of cooperation between the actors.
If all goes according to plan and things keep running so smoothly, we should get the film on its scheduled release date, which is just over a year from now, on August 5 2016. There’s plenty of time to go until then and we’re likely going to get various more bits of information about the film during this year, so fans should keep their eyes and ears open. Actors involved in the production seem particularly fond of sharing funny quips from their work during interviews.
