Among the numerous actors who have taken on the role of The Joker, mostly in Batman films, it was the late Heath Ledger who got rave reviews for his delicious portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime in “The Dark Knight” shown in July 2008.
When Heath Ledger was announced for the role of The Joker, fans were actually outraged because the late actor was mostly acting on lead and protagonist roles prior to “The Dark Knight” and they felt that he was just too good and nice to become a villain or a bad guy in a movie.
However, once they had seen the movie, their perception of Heath Ledger had changed round-about. He certainly turned The Joker into a sadistic villain that he really is in Batman films and comic books. Everything was praises for the late actor since then.
Many film critics had said back then that Heath Ledger’s performance for The Joker has set the bar for the actors who shall take on the role in the future. So when Ledger died, he left very big shoes to fill in that most critics believe would be hard to come by.
Under pressure
It is for this reason that Jared Leto is under intense pressure to play the part of “The Joker” in the upcoming movie based on DC Comics “Suicide Squad” showing on August 5, 2016.
He wants to deliver a performance that would actually meet the high standard that the late Heath Ledger has set forth for the role.
But if recent reports coming from the set of the filming of “Suicide Squad” are to be believed, it looks like Jared Leto is on course to filling the big shoes that Heath Ledger left as the best actor ever to played The Joker in a movie.
Not only is Jared Leto very intense in his acting as The Joker in “Suicide Squad,” he was also utilizing method acting in taking on the role, reports Cinema Blend.
He took on the character like it was really him and even took the effort to look like The Joker by cutting his long hair, dying it from black to blonde and eventually to green, and wearing make-up and aesthetics that really make him look like a sadistic villain.
Just by the measure of his appearance as The Joker, Jared Leto looks a lot better than the Clown Prince of Crime of the late Heath Ledger. The movie “Suicide Squad” will provide the answer as to whether he acted the part as great as Ledger was in “The Dark Knight.” But thus far, reports coming from the set of “Suicide Squad” are saying that Leto is playing the part so well, he can be considered as the best actor who took on the role of The Joker to date.
Demonic and hideous
The latest images from the filming of “Suicide Squad” where versatile actor and musician Jared Leto plays the role of The Joker, show him looking very demonic and hideous, even drawing resemblance to the Darth Sidious character in the “Star Wars” franchise.
In addition to the official look of The Joker loaded with ‘Ha ha ha’ tattoos, there have also been footage and photos from the set showing a car chase between him and Batman.
Apparently, Ben Affleck as Batman will appear in the film to chase down The Joker and his sidekick Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, with his Batmobile. It is thus no wonder that much of the scenes of The Joker in “Suicide Squad” will see him behind bars.
