Fifty Shades of Grey is based on a novel by E. L. James and it is about to make one actor a huge star. Jamie Dornan stars in the film opposite of Dakota Johnson in this romantic drama filled with plenty of erotic scenes. Even though most critics believe that the movie does not do the book justice, the first weekend at the box office would have to tell a different story about what critics are saying.
The film was featured at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival on the 11th of this month and finally via Universal Studios across the nation on the Friday the 13th of February. The critics tore the movie apart as it got more negative reviews with each day that passed, but the first weekend in the box office proved to be a successful one bringing in more than $265 million, according to sources. In the beginning it was assumed there would be more than one movie and it looks like the sequel is scheduled for 2016.
When movies go to the top of the box office, they often make stars out of the actors that played in the movie. Especially when you are talking about actors like Jamie Dornan, who really only starred in a 7 less than known films before Fifty Shades of Grey. He did star in the television series “Once Upon A Time”, which is where most of his fan base is going to recognize him from.
Two other movies that he is starring in are in post-production right now, showing you what kind of work can come from being in a popular television series and a number one movie all at the same time. Early in his career Jamie Dornan was a fashion model as well as a musician before deciding to go into acting on a full time basis. Right now, he is celebrating the success of the movie as well as the fact that Netflix just purchased the rights to another movie he is in.
That movie, called Jadotville was purchased by Netflix this week and features the actor opposite Guillaume Canet. The film is based in 1961, during the siege of an Irish UN battalion by 3,000 Congolese troops. Jamie Dornan plays an Irish commander in the movie while the co-star plays a French commander. The movie is directed by Richie Smyth and is produced by Alan Moloney. The screenplay for the movie was written by Kevin Brodbin.
