Recently, X-Men star James McAvoy made the headlines in a rather embarrassing way, after he cut an audition short by leaving the stage crying over an alleged car crash involving one of his friends. Now, it’s been revealed that the crash was made up entirely, and so was McAvoy’s crying – and the actor has decided to shed some light on the situation and explain to his fans and critics why he did what he did.
According to him, his agent has been pressing him into breaking out of his comfort zone and trying out new things, including learning the guitar as well as singing songs – and he was initially in agreement to that, although his enthusiasm didn’t last long. When the actual day of the audition came, the actor wasn’t feeling up to the task, and felt like he was giving a terrible performance.
So when he stood in front of the jury, he instead started to cry and explained that he had just received a phone call, informing him that a friend of his had just been admitted to a hospital, and he had to leave the audition. While this initially didn’t cause any problems for him, he has now decided to come clean about the situation, and admitted to his deception on the Graham Norton Show on BBC.
He seemed remorseful over what he had done, stating that he didn’t actually want to deceive anyone, and felt bad about the fact that people are going to see the recording and think that he really did have a serious problem going on. He went on to say that he was sorry, and he didn’t want to give the wrong impression to anyone, which was part of the reason for him to come forward about his lies and reveal that the crying had been fake all along.
The actor’s next major role will be in “The Ruling Class”, a stage production at the Trafalgar Studios, where he’s expected to deliver a solid performance. Previously, he was known for “Atonement” which came out in 2007, as well as “Wanted”, where he played alongside Angelina Jolie. His performances have been met with mostly positive reactions throughout his career, although this latest incident appears to have smudged his image to some extent.
On the other hand, the heartfelt apology he delivered seems to have worked well, as public opinions of the actor are picking up and leaning towards the positive yet again. He’ll be playing the starring role in “Frankenstein” alongside Daniel Radcliffe, who will be performing as his assistant Igor – a production that has been highly anticipated ever since details of it started coming out.
