Cartoon HD continues to be in a strange situation, and it looks like the app isn’t going to come back to app stores anytime soon. However, this hasn’t stopped some of its more creative users from coming up with ways to circumvent the restrictions, and even though it was removed from the various app stores it was submitted to, it was still available for users willing to install it manually on their devices.
While that’s easy enough for Android, it’s a different story for iOS users who have to jailbreak their devices in order to get access to the ability to install custom apps. And then, reports indicate that even those with jailbroken iPhones and iPads are still not able to install Cartoon HD. There were some rumors that users had gotten the app to work, but those were later confirmed to be false, and it’s not clear if Cartoon HD will ever be available on Apple’s devices in any form.
Of course, there are also the website replacements, which are just as good as the original in many aspects, and can even be used on a mobile phone. Some users have stated that they don’t even need the original app anymore, now that they have it available in website form, but it’s certainly still convenient to have Cartoon HD as a direct app pinned to one’s home screen.
And the popularity of the app has noticeably suffered ever since it was pulled from app stores as well. Even though it’s still the default solution for easy access to cartoons for pretty much everyone, it was noticeably more popular when it was available on the Play Store and iTunes App Store, compared to its current status.
There have also been rumors that the app’s developers have been looking into ways to actually monetize it and bring it back to the market, which would be a very strange occurrence if it turns out to be true. They would need to strike deals with many different publishers and companies, something which is probably out of the league of most developers, let alone the people working on Cartoon HD.
Still, the app did manage to show that there is an obvious, huge demand for a product like this, so even if it doesn’t come back in its original form, someone else will likely copy the idea and find a way to make it popular. In the end, it could be just a matter of tweaking something about the way it works in order to make it “legal” in the eyes of Google and Apple. We will find out in the coming months – if a replacement does come up, it should become popular very quickly.
