Jaguar Land Rover to Recall Nearly 105,000 Range Rovers and Jaguar XK in March!

British carmaker Jaguar Land Rover will be recalling a total of 104,000 of Range Rovers and Jaguar XK vehicles in the US due to brake hose and light problems, reports Western Daily Press.

The recall covers 74,648 Range Rovers because of a brake issue wherein there is a possibility of one or both front brake hoses getting ruptured, possibly leading to the loss of brake fluid, and brake eventually.

The Range Rovers to be recalled will be those from model years 2006 to 2012.

Range Rover Sports and Range Rovers for model years 2013 and 2014 will also be recalled because of problem in the brake vacuum hose.

The recall also cover a total of 4,787 Jaguar XK cars for model years from 2012 to 2015 due to problem of side parking lights, which turns off after nearly five minutes of being on.

Jaguar Land Rover will start recalling the vehicles on March 13.

Recall order

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued on February 6 notices to Land Rover and Jaguar Cars to order the recall of its defective vehicles.

The recall is the largest ever made by the both Land Rover and Jaguar Cars over the issue of brake hose and lights, which was carefully studied and scrutinized by Jaguar Land Rover North America.

On the issue of brake hoses with the Range Rovers, the dealers will be replacing the part without any charge to the owners provided their vehicle model is from 2006 to 2012.

Jaguar Land Rover North America first probe the brake hose problem of the Range Rover in November 2010 when dealers reported that there were notable bulging in the hoses, which was probably reported by some Range Rover owners too.

The company shot down the investigation in June 2012 when it found out that the bulging of the hoses is caused by a sporadic nature and that there was no reported case of accident or injury as a result of such defect.

Following an accident last year involving significant number of ruptured brake hoses on the Range Rover, the company re-opened the probe in November 2014 according to the report by the NTHSA.

Other recall orders

For Range Rover Sports and Range Rovers for model years 2013 and 2014, the brake vacuum hoses were believed to have been improperly routed which subject it to excessive wear and tear resulting to the creation of a hole and loss of braking power.

Dealers of the vehicles will be conducting inspection on the vacuum hoses and reroute or repair them as appropriate.

As for the problem of Jaguar XK cars regarding their parking side lights, dealers shall also be updating their software and re-install it on the vehicles to be able to adjust the control setting for the lights.
