Jaguar Land Rover Comes With Eye Tracking Technology, But What Does It Control? Let’s See!

When it comes to the cars and trucks that are flying around the roads these days, the technology that is packed into them is out of hand. Just about every single car that comes off the line at a car maker’s plant has more electronics in it than my computer, tablet and smartphone combined. Of course cars have computers in them, have for years now, but there was no way to take hands-free in my car 15 years ago.

Today, cars and trucks are chalk full of infotainment systems that can tell you if you are going to hit something while backing, whether something is in your blind spot and even give you the weather report without your input. This week, it was announced that Jaguar Land Rover is going to partner up with Intel and make your car even more technologically advanced than you thought it could be.

According to one report, Jaguar Land Rover has partnered up with Intel to put some new electronics in your car and this time it includes eye-tracking hardware and software. If you had to guess, how long do you think it would take to figure out what your eyes are going to be controlling? Consumers are getting the first look at the eye tracking hardware these days in showrooms all over the country.

To keep it short and sweet, the eye-tracking is going to be allowing you to control the windshield wipers in your car. That is right, now you can just look left and right to remove the rain that has fallen onto the glass. This is just a side project of course. The main reason that Jaguar Land Rover is going to partner up with Intel is to come out with new technology to prevent you from nodding off behind the wheel and driving into the sunset through a cornfield.

With more cars and trucks driving along the countryside, safety and distracted driving detection systems are going to be the next initiative for some car makers. For the most part, you are likely to read about the new technology as something that can keep you safely driving down the road, but being able to control your wipers is pretty cool as well. According to one expert, this solution came from a problem that Jaguar Land Rover thought should be addressed.

When you activate the rear wiper on any vehicle, you are also putting a distraction on the back window and in some case this will keep your view through the back a little less than clear and wide open. This new system is going to take your eye movement and activate the rear wiper only if you are looking into the rear mirror.
