The American police procedural comedy-fiction drama TV series “iZombie” on The CW will move to a new direction when its third season unveils early next year.
Showrunners Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright made the confirmation during the show’s presentation panel at the San Diego ComicCon held over the weekend.
It could be recalled that the first season of “iZombie” built to a big final battle sequence at a butcher shop called Meat Cute while the second season built to a big final battle sequence where energy drink company Max Rager was purchased by Fillmore Graves Enterprises before a full-scale zombie outbreak took place, details Wired.
Thomas and Ruggiero-Wright promised fans that “iZombie” will break the cycle in Season 3 as Liv Moore, played by Rose McIver, has discovered that there are many more zombies out in the world who are now preparing for an all-out war against humanity.
It has been hinted by the creators that Season 3 will see Liv choosing a side between humans and zombies. She will be starting the post-zombie rampage period of her life by laying all the cards on the table with her friends and their reaction will be the focal point of the storylines for the upcoming Season 3.
Production now in progress
Filming for Season 3 of “iZombie” begins on July 25 and based on the hints given by the stars and executive producers of the show during the San Diego ComicCon panel, Liv shall eat a dominatrix’s brain, she and Major might rekindle their romance, and Ravi will realize the existing love triangle among him, Peyton, and Blaine.
In addition to the executive producers, Rose McIver, David Anders, who plays Blaine, Rahul Kohli, who plays Ravi, Malcolm Goodwin, who plays Clive, and Aly Michalka, who plays Peyton, appeared at the show’s presentation panel at the San Diego ComicCon.
McIver revealed that her character in the TV series shall be going to eat a dominatrix’s brain which she termed as ficus. She even jested that she has to clear her browser history repeatedly for it.
She also talked about a possible reconnection between Liv and Major although she said that there is a bigger fish to fry. She added that Liv’s next romantic interest in the show will not be killed off regardless whether it is going to be Major or not, details Indiewire.
Bizarre love triangle
Another interesting plotline for Season 3 of “iZombie” is the bizarre love triangle among Ravi, Peyton, and Blaine.
It was only towards the tail end of Season 2 that Ravi realized that there was another man vying for Peyton’s affections and it is the undead Blaine.
Michalka confirmed that the love triangle exists and shall continue to exist in Season 3 and noted that Ravi will be dealing with his feelings about the whole thing in the first few episodes.
The show shall also be following the “Law & Order” pattern wherein Liv and Clive will work on solving a case one week, while Peyton shall prosecute the case the following week because there shall be more to the crime than what it seems.
Michalka has already been upgraded to a series regular for “iZombie” Season 3.
After taking down Max Rager during the Season 2 finale, there will be a new big bad in Season 3. Apparently, a mercenary army of zombies led by the charming damsel Vivian Stoll, which was already introduced in the last few episodes of Season 2, will finally force Liv and Major to finally confront their zombie nature and allegiances to humanity, notes Hypable.
It turns out that Fillmore Graves is a military contractor being run by zombies who are arming themselves for the eventual and inevitable conflict that is sure to come once humans realize the zombies walk amongst them.
Interestingly, Vivian is not a traditional villain. She will be a mentor to Liv who will push her to confront greater philosophical questions about who she is and whether she is willing to embrace her identity as a zombie.
