Is the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact Coming Out in 2015 or 2016, and What Kind of Hardware Will It Feature

Yet another round of rumors about the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact make the device’s future even more unclear. When are Sony planning to launch the new phone, and what kinds of specifications is it going to feature? Information about both of those aspects of the device’s launch has been contradicting, and so far it’s not clear when we’re going to see something more concrete. Currently, some are expecting that Sony will make an appearance at the Mobile World Congress in March, where they will at least showcase the device.

On the other hand, other reports push the phone’s release all the way to 2016 – something which doesn’t seem that likely, given the fact that Sony have gone for a while now without a proper flagship – but it could be possible if they want to polish its hardware even more. In addition, there are other rumors that indicate that the company is planning a summer launch, possibly shortly before Apple come out with the new iPhone, and that also seems quite likely.

There are rumors that the device is actually quite far ahead in its development and is close to a finished state, but the company is intentionally pushing back its release date, in anticipation of an upcoming sale of their assets. Apparently, Sony have not been very pleased with their performance on the mobile market, and are currently looking into selling off their mobile division, and if that’s true, then the company would also want to leave the Xperia Z4 to whatever buyer ends up taking over.

On the other hand, other rumors claim that the company is just trying to improve the phone as much as possible before they release it on the market, and they’re waiting for some advanced hardware to be released before they come out with the new Xperia Z4. With that in mind, it could make sense that they would delay it by a few months, but going all the way into 2016 seems far less likely, and wouldn’t be too sensible from a business standpoint.

What will customers get inside the device? There are different rumors about that as well, but most are claiming that the screen will be either Full HD or Quad HD, with a Snapdragon 810 powering the phone, along with 4 GB of RAM and a dedicated GPU. All of this running on Android 5.0 out of the box – this does sound like a nice package, and hopefully Sony will be able to pull it off properly, whenever they’re planning to bring the new phone to the market. It’s hard to draw any conclusions on that from the current rumors.

  1. They’re waiting a few months for a new hardware? What hardware? There will be nothing new before the end of this year.
