“A Song of Ice and Fire” is one of today’s book series that have managed to capture the hearts of readers by storm, and have established a prominent name for themselves in the world of literature. George R. R. Martin continues the storyline to this day, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the sixth book in the series, “Winds of Winter”. So far, no official announcement has come from the author – but according to some rumors, the book may be closer than most are expecting. It’s likely that it could hit the market as early as June 2015.
It’s not unusual for the author to take a lot of time to release a book, particularly when it’s one that fans have been more excited about. George R. R. Martin is known for using lots of external resources, and constantly doing large amounts of research in order to ensure that each of his books not only features a captivating story, but also has numerous little details that all fit together in one coherent picture.
In fact, this slow writing style has recently led to a peculiar situation regarding the production of “Game of Thrones”. Because the show’s development has been moving along faster than the writing of the books, the producers have recently decided to meet up with the author and discuss his plans for the future of the franchise, so they would know how to approach the next seasons of the show. This is more or less unprecedented in the history of TV shows, and it’s not clear how it will affect the writing of the show.
Because in the end, the producers will try to keep their version of the story as close as possible to what’s depicted in the books, but due to the asynchronous development, and the books lagging behind, this might be more difficult than it seems, and there will likely be at least some minor differences in the final versions. These could be turned into a positive aspect though, as fans will now have even more good reasons to check out both the books as well as the TV series, if they want to get the full picture of what’s going on in the story.
If the next book in the series does indeed come out in June 2015, this will coincide with the end of the show’s fifth season, which would be a good time for the producers to sit down and evaluate their ideas for the show’s next episodes, based on the final version of “Winds and Winter”. And of course, fans will know what to expect, at least to some extent.
