Is the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Going to Be a Bigger Device

Microsoft still seem to be having some issues figuring out the exact market niche for the Surface Pro tablets. Customers have already clearly seen that these are no ordinary tablet devices – with the specifications they boast under the hood, the Surface machines can easily fill the role of a laptop, especially with the attached physical keyboard. Still, critics have been commenting that the devices are too expensive for the everyday user, while the relatively small screen size can cause some problems for certain laptop-oriented applications. On the other hand, the need for a stylus has also been questioned, with some reviewers claiming that they never had to user their included pens.

Now rumors have it that Microsoft are planning to make the next Surface bigger, focusing on improving its multimedia capabilities. The company is, on the other hand, reportedly trying to retain the same price point for the new tablet, although there has been no information about whether or not they are going to cut down on its specifications to compensate.

According to leaks allegedly coming from within the company, the next Surface Pro is going to be even bigger than the current 12” models, which would bring them even closer to the dimensions of an ordinary laptop. It remains to be seen if the device’s weight is going to suffer as a result, as one of the problems people have been reporting with prolonged use of the Surface Pro 3 is that it’s not very comfortable when used in bed – the device reportedly starts to feel a bit heavy after a while.

So far, Microsoft have not been very successful in securing a large portion of the market with their Surface line, although they have certainly been trying to improve their marketing efforts and raise awareness about the devices’ capabilities. It’s expected that the Surface Pro 4 is going to be accompanied by an even more aggressive marketing campaign, and most commentators on the industry have been pointing out that this is likely the last chance for the company to take solid ground in this market.

Surface Pro 3

If the Surface Pro 4 fails to attract the large numbers of customers that Microsoft seem to be aiming for, this could seal the device’s market position as a niche tablet/laptop that only a few people can find a proper use for. On the other hand, if the release of the Surface Pro 4 is successful, it could be a true game changer for this market. It remains to be seen how Microsoft are going to pull this off, but they certainly have the resources and dedication to make it a successful release.
