While many of the companies on the Android market have been trying to get the most powerful offer they can recently, some haven’t forgotten that they have customers in other market segments below the high-tier as well. Among those is Motorola, who have been doing quite well winning over consumers’ hearts with the help of their Moto G2 – but how well does the device actually fare against other companies’ low-end phones, such as the LG Optimus L9?
Motorola have traditionally had a very strong reputation on the low-end market, and for a good reason – but recently, offers from other companies have started to undermine Motorola’s position at the top, with some experts even saying that the company should put some serious effort into their future products if they want to get back their market share. At the same time, the Moto G2 seems to be a remarkably good offer – so where does the truth lie?
The phone may be a low-end device, but it still has quite the good specifications for its price, coming with a Snapdragon 400 processor and 1 GB of RAM, as well as 8 GB of built-in storage. The phone also has a microSD slot that can expand its memory to 32 GB, and an 8 megapixel camera on the back. It’s not upgradeable to Android 5.0 out of the box, and currently it’s actually only limited to Android 4.4.2, but custom ROMs should be able to fix that for users who’re willing to dig into their devices a bit more.
On the other hand, LG’s Optimus L9 spots more or less the same set of specifications, and comes at roughly the same price – so calling it a killer of the G2 is a bit of a stretch when both devices have more or less the same to offer to buyers. Of course, it’s fair to say that the Optimus L9 is a good competitor to the Motorola G2, and this is actually something that no reviewer has been denying, but that’s about as far as those claims can be taken.
The only real difference is that LG managed to make their claim to the market much sooner than Motorola, releasing their device a full year earlier. And yet, when the Moto G2 came out, it quickly managed to establish a solid position for itself on the Android market, and was immediately met with warm reception by most reviewers. This can be attributed to both Motorola’s fame and their strong following of fans, as well as the fact that Android users have been asking for a bit more variety in their market for a while now.
