Rumors about “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” have been going back and forward, and it’s getting hard for fans of the franchise to know what to expect at this point. Problems surrounding Garfield reportedly started at an event at Rio de Janeiro a year ago, where the actor was supposed to appear and be presented by Kaz Hirai as the star of “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” in a special speech. However, Garfield didn’t make his appearance as expected, causing problems for the organizers, and as a result they had to change the whole speech and the focus of the event.
This wasn’t taken lightly by Sony executives, as was revealed in an e-mail exchange by some of them that was leaked in the hacks targeting the company, and it was apparently the first of many problems that would eventually erode the relationship between Garfield and the studio. We don’t have many details about the events that followed afterwards, but we can only assume that the relations between the two sides degraded significantly for him to eventually be taken off the project.
We don’t know what the situation is right now officially, as Andrew Garfield commented that he had received a phone call letting him know that he has been dismissed, but nobody from the studio has confirmed this situation as of now. There are not many reasons for Garfield to lie about something like this, so we’re assuming that this is indeed what’s going on and the producers are just looking for the best way to present the situation to the public.
It’s also possible that they’re in the process of seeking out a replacement for Garfield, in which case we might still get an announcement about “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” being in the works, but with a different actor in the main role. In any case, this wouldn’t be a good situation for Andrew Garfield, who has been having problems on other fronts of his life recently and would probably be affected badly by such a development as well.
