While rumors are aplenty about it, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm if there is indeed going to be an “Iron Man 4” movie sometime down the road.
As it is, there are three mystery Marvel movies set to be released in 2020 all of them are to be part of phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The latest rumors now indicate that since Iron Man is part of the third installment of the Captain America movie officially titled “Captain America: Civil War,” Chris Evans a.k.a. Steve Rogers would like to return the favor and appear in a possible “Iron Man 4” movie.
In a recent interview, Chris Evans hinted that he would love to make an appearance in the fourth installment of the “Iron Man” film series. His recent statements also quashed wild speculations that his character would suffer his demise in the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War” due to hit worldwide theaters on May 6, 2016, reports Classicalite.
Evans said that he would be happy to be in an “Iron Man” movie. He said that he and Robert Downey Jr., as their Marvel superhero characters, have been in so many movies together that the titles are almost inconsequential because they all win, details the Latin Post.
A possible dilemma
However, should Marvel Studios decide to go for an “Iron Man 4,” it will actually be breaking its plan of only having one trilogy for every superhero character.
As such, once an “Iron Man 4” comes out, it should be prepared to roll out a “Captain America 4” or a “Thor 4” or an “Ant-Man 4” movie in the distant future.
It may be good to some extent as the expansion of the MCU would also ensure the sustainability of the whole Marvel Avengers franchise, but they are also faced with the reality that actors age and that fans also get tired of constant servings of superhero movies especially in light of the decision of DC and Warner Bros to give Marvel a run for their money starting next year.
That may also mean that all other Marvel characters that would have stand-alone films including “Doctor Strange,” the “Black Panther,” and “Spider-Man” and perhaps some more should be prepared to go the full distance of four stand-alone movies each.
Expansion of the MCU
Marvel Studios may be grappling with some thoughts when it announced that it will have three mystery movies in 2020.
The production outfit has already released its complete lineup of 14 films from next year up to 2020. While the first 11 movies are all identified and accounted for from next year until 2019, the three movies in 2020 remain anonymous.
There are speculations that one of the three mystery Marvel movies in 2020 is “Iron Man 4.” From a business standpoint, “Iron Man 4” is important because of the huge success of “Iron Man 3” which is currently the 9th highest-grossing movie of all time with its $1.215 billion worldwide box-office haul.
While there have been rumors that the main issue of whether there will be an “Iron Man 4” or not is dependent on the supposedly ongoing negotiations between Marvel and actor Robert Downey Jr. over the issue of salary, the more astute Marvel movie enthusiasts think otherwise.
They believe that money is not an issue with Marvel Studios as they have in fact paid Robert Downey Jr. a cool $80 million for his role in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” that was shown in April this year. That’s a 60% increment from his $50 million salary for doing “Iron Man 3” back in 2013.
“Avengers: Age of Ultron” also made it to the roster of the all-time highest grossing movie at the No. 6 spot with its $1.405 billion box-office haul.
So in movies that Marvel invested a good amount of money on Robert Downey Jr., the production outfit actually got good returns.

If RDJ doesn’t return as IRON MAN in the next installment, I will blow this joint apart!
