Despite the threat of legal persecution for the crime of infringement against copyright laws, there are no stopping Apple mobile device users from installing either on their iPhones or iPads the popular movie and TV app Popcorn Time.
Popcorn Time has become the most popular way to watch TV and movies online for free, without paying any subscription the way NetFlix do with its customers.
A number of firms, particularly film production companies, are hot on the tail of Popcorn Time developers since the presence of the app and the millions of users using it worldwide, guarantee that the film companies would not make so much money on the retail sales and streaming of their movies online, which is essentially a good money-maker too.
Unfortunately, the developers of Popcorn Time have been very secretive of their ways and can surely escape prosecution since they have remained anonymous to this day.
Creeping back
Almost two weeks ago, reports came out that Popcorn Time was creeping back to the iPhones and iPads beyond the knowledge of Apple with the launching of the copyright flouting bittorent video player for iOS allowing for free and easy-as-Netflix form of movie and TV show piracy to millions of iPhones and iPads users.
As many of the app users know, Popcorn Time is a bittorrent client with a professionally designed universal interface that lets users browse movies using official artwork and descriptions and lets them choose which resolution to watch the film.
The app itself is not illegal but streaming and sharing of videos is illegal especially if it does not have permission from the copyright holder. In terms of videos or movies, they are normally the film production outfits.
Developers of Popcorn Time are also being up front about the service which they are offering similar to what cigarette smokers are doing on the packs of every cigarette pack they are selling. There is a waiver that comes with the app that says ‘Downloading copyrighted material may be illegal in your country. Use at your own risk.’ This is no different from the cigarette manufacturers warning to smoker on every cigarette pack that reads: ‘Smoking is dangerous to your health.’
Installation procedures
Macworld of UK however, outlined the steps of how users can actually download and install the Popcorn Time app by way of the PC first. There is no direct downloads to the mobile devices since the app is no longer available at the App Store like it used to.
The program can be downloaded to the PC and then be installed on the iPads and iPhones through syncing with iTunes while the devices should be on Airplane Mode.
There is no available version of the app on the Mac but it can nonetheless be synced from the PC to the Mac. Once the app is installed to the iOS device, users can just follow the prompt as instructed until installation is complete.
