At the end of season 4, President Frank Underwood was recovering from a shooting which could have gone almost fatal. He was running for a second term with his wife, named Claire Underwood as the running mate.
A hostage situation was being handled by the scheming politician where an American family had been captured by an extremist.
He was also trying to engage in damage control after Tom Hammerschmidt, the journalist, released various details in The Washington Herald regarding Frank Underwood’s corrupted past. Obviously, to further increase the hype, the release was perfectly timed with Donald Trump’s inauguration. He took his oath on 20th January, Friday at D. C’s Capitol Building.
