If you are not aware of who Iggy Azalea is, you are likely to hear her name a lot during the awards season. The 24 year old rapper, songwriter, model has been making headlines throughout the last 12 months or more. She is from Australia and has been in the United States since she was just 16 years old. She came to this country to pursue a career in hip hop music and has lived in Florida, Texas and most recently, Georgia.
Back in 2011, she released her debut album of mixed music and that is when she met T.I. Shortly after that, Iggy Azalea was signed to his record label, Grand Hustle. Even with a busy music career, Iggy Azalea signed on to Wilhelmina Models and was quickly named as the “new face of Levi Jeans” and her career was taking off like a rocket ship.
Just like with any other popular, new, up and coming artist, they have to deal with the haters. Most of them were happy to say that she was nothing more than an artist with a short lived career. Iggy Azalea does not mince words and has been noted for being right in your face. She recently mentioned that one of the best ways for her to take care of the haters that are out there is during the awards season.
Iggy Azalea is nominated for four Grammy awards, one of them being Best New Artist and that is likely to only be the beginning. She claims that she is getting so much attention because she is a white rapper and said in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine that she knows that the attention is coming because is “has a vagina” without a doubt. Being a white rapper is not “strange” according to Iggy Azalea, she noted that artists like the Rolling Stones have even done black music. She is prepared to be very popular for some time and even if her fame was gone tomorrow, she is happy to have been able to leave her mark.
Iggy Azalea is doing a great job at making the haters be wrong and has been winning awards for a while now. In 2014 she won two American Music Awards in the Hip Hop categories and that was out of four nominations. The MTV Video Music Awards got her one award and seven other nominations for her collaboration with Ariana Grande. The list does not stop there, other awards include Teen Choice Awards, MTV Europe Music Award, 2014 ARIA Award and one at the People’s Choice Awards this year.
