Hugh Jackman will make a last stand as Wolverine of the X-Men. The Australian actor has committed to reprise the role of the mutant with blades coming out at the knuckles of his hands and also has the unique self-healing ability in the third stand-alone Wolverine movie set to be release on March 3, 2017.
Jackman personally made the announcement when he posted an image on his Instagram account on March 28 featuring his two fists and three claws coming out of the knuckles of his right hand.
He captioned the image ‘Wolverine, one last time,’ indicating that it would be his final time to play the role of the temperamental mutant which he has been portraying since 2000.
X-Men and Wolverine trilogies
The “Chappie” actor has played the role of Wolverine five times starting with the first X-Men trilogy beginning with the “X-Men” released in 2000, followed by “X-Men 2” in 2006, and “X-Men: The Last Stand” which hit theaters in 2009, details Yahoo! Celebrity.
Subsequently, he reprised the role in Wolverine stand-alone movies beginning with “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” back in 2011 and “The Wolverine” in 2013. The third movie showing in 2017 will complete the trilogy on the man-made mutant.
Unlike other mutants, Wolverine is not born with mutant abilities or powers. His power was a result of an experiment which contributed to his being temperamental and his tendency to go on things alone rather than be with the other X-Men, saying that he is not a mutant.
His Wolverine character was not included in the two latest X-Men movies namely, “X-Men: First Class” released in 2011 and “X-Men: Days of the Future Past” which only hit theaters last year. The third film in the trilogy, titled “X-Men: Apocalypse” will hit theaters on May 27, 2016, where Wolverine will still not be a part of.
A spinoff X-Men film, titled “Deadpool” starring Ryan Reynolds as the mercenary with the mouth, will also be showing on February 12, 2016. It is still not clear if Wolverine will have a cameo appearance in the movie.
