Many fans of the “X-Men” franchise, as well as film critics, had a good reason to believe that Hugh Jackman would be playing in the new “X-Men: Apocalypse”, even though this was never confirmed officially by the studio or actor. And now, it looks like this will be the case after all, and we may get to see Jackman performing in the new installment. On the other hand, another actor might be out.
Ian McKellen will not be showing up in the new film, something which was already confirmed by McKellen himself. So, even though that was a bit disappointing to some of the franchise’s fans, it was at least not a major surprise for most of them. On the other hand, Hugh Jackman had been discussing the possibility of playing in the new film, but we haven’t heard anything from the actor regarding his role ever since last year when he was reported to be in those talks.
Bryan Singer, who’s directing the production, has been quiet about the issue as well, even though he has been sharing various types of updates from the set of the film. In general, we haven’t heard anything about Jackman on the official front as the studio has been mostly quiet about the actor’s performance.
But now, news about Jackman’s role in the new film came from a somewhat unlikely source – a leather goods company based in Brooklyn. According to Kika NY, they have just received an order for a special duffle backpack that will be used by Hugh Jackman in a new “X-Men” film that he’s currently working on. That doesn’t really leave many possibilities, and it looks pretty clear that the actor will be involved in the new production.
The post managed to generate a lot of attention, but it was quickly deleted afterwards and it’s believed that Fox got to the studio and “discussed” the situation with them briefly. Or rather, they had their lawyers do it. After all, leaking information about such a major project can easily hurt Fox in some rather unpredictable ways, especially if the information is more sensitive and has the potential to give people the wrong impression.
Still, most fans were pretty much convinced that Jackman will be playing in the new film at this point, so it’s not like the company ended up spoiling something major. It’s still nice to get an official confirmation about the actor’s involvement in the film, but other than that we wouldn’t say that the company has really ruined anything for fans.
