HTC have been quietly preparing for the release of their new One M9, and even though they’ve been relatively quiet about the upcoming device, there is still plenty of information about it already. It’s not known exactly when the M9 will be made available, although it’s expected that the company is aiming at Q1 2015 as their primary goal. It’s expected that the phone will be revealed a few weeks before it’s made available on the market. And judging by the rumors coming from various people close to HTC, the new M9 will be a major upgrade over the M8 in many aspects. Which should say a lot for anyone who’s familiar with the M8 itself.
The HTC One M8 quickly drew the attention of everyone, critics and users alike, when it was released. A powerhouse of an Android device, it quickly became known for being one of the most capable devices on the Android market, and it earned HTC a solid reputation. And now, it seems the company has decided to improve on the previous phone in multiple different ways.
The screen has reportedly been upgraded, both in terms of resolution as well as durability, and it’s rumored to feature the latest version of Gorilla Glass. Corning recently announced improvements in their Gorilla line, so it’s possible that these might make their way to the coming M9 as well. On the inside, the device has also seen a significant upgrade, sporting a faster processor and more RAM, while also coming with the latest version of Android, 5.0 Lollipop. Of course, this should be expected for any Android phone that comes out in 2015.
Last but not least, there are rumors that HTC will also give the M9 a better camera than the M8, which was one of the very few points of criticism towards the previous device. The M8’s camera wasn’t by any means bad, but it was also not exceptional, with a 5-megapixel resolution and pretty standard picture quality. It’s expected that the M9 will be a noticeable improvement in this regard, offering a better photography experience.
Nothing is known about the M9’s price, and it’s possible that HTC might raise the cost of the M9. However, the M8 was already a rather expensive Android device to begin with, so making the M9 cost more could be a questionable decision. This line of phones was never aimed at the budget market, that’s true, but HTC should also be careful not to limit their reach too much, as there are certainly plenty of people out there who would readily buy an M8 if it was offered at a more reasonable price in most countries.
