When the HTC One M9 was formally released to the retail market in April this year, the first thing that critics and users noted was its slight improvement over the HTC One M8, its predecessor model.
Unlike the key changes that HTC One M8 have taken in from its very successful flagship predecessor, the HTC One M7, including the amazing brushed metal look among many others, there was hardly any major change on HTC One M9 from the HTC One M8.
Now it turns out that the Taiwanese smartphone maker has focused more on the improvements on the internal parts and the primary camera of HTC One M9, rather than its physical makeover.
However, because of the great predecessor smartphones, the HTC One M7 and the HTC One M8, the pressure was just too overwhelming on the HTC One M9 so when it felt short of expectations, it was not because of its own doing but simply because it was a successor to two great smartphones, details Neurogadget.
HTC devices to get the Marshmallow
There were reports last week, that the first three HTC smartphones that were confirmed to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow are the HTC One M9, the HTC One M9+, and the HTC One M8, with the fourth being the upcoming HTC One A9.
However, Slash Gear reported that several other HTC devices are going to receive the latest mobile operating system from Google including the HTC One M7, the HTC Desire Eye, the HTC Desire 816, the HTC Desire 820, the HTC Desire 826, the HTC One M8 Eye, the HTC One E8, the HTC One ME, the HTC One E9, the HTC One E9+, the HTC Butterfly 2, and the HTC Butterfly 3.
But the information has yet to be confirmed by HTC. According to the site, however, the information is trustworthy although it does not come with a 100% guarantee on accuracy.
HTC’s plans may change eventually. For the critics, however, they believe that some of the HTC smartphones included in the new list lack the internal storage to take in the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. One such smartphone is the HTC Desire 816, whose internal storage capacity is quite limited to the huge file size of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Getting rid of the Stagefright bug
Most of the Android smartphones these days are reeling from the so-called Stagefright bug. Officially disclosed on July 27, Stagefright is an MMS bug that currently affects the majority of smartphones and tablets running on the Android operating system.
Stagefright is a potentially devastating bug and many smartphone manufacturers and carriers have been working to fix it soon enough.
Canadian carrier Rogers is among the first to release a minor update a few days ago specifically to the original Moto X 2013 in its lineup that already includes a fix on Stagefright.
After the Moto X 2013, the carrier also rolled out the same for the HTC One M9, the current flagship smartphone of the Taiwanese handset maker HTC, on September 24.
Apparently, the fix was supposed to come with the Android 5.1 Lollipop update which was officially released to the smartphone late in August but was withheld for some reason.
Subsequently, after the HTC One M9, the same fix was rolled out to the Sony Xperia Z1 on September 28 to secure it from Stagefright vulnerability. Rogers is also planning to release a Stagefright fix for the Z30’s Android player. The fix already rolled out on September 24, similar to the HTC One M9.
Meanwhile, Google’s latest mobile operating system, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, will be officially rolling out in a few weeks’ time and Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC confirmed that it will be releasing the update to the HTC One M9 and two of its other high-end handsets.
