Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor has earlier been rumored to have overheating problems when compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 801 chipset.
Since there was no specific way to show it, it was branded as mere speculation and Qualcomm has gotten some slack for it.
However, a recent benchmark test conducted on some of the flagship smartphones out in the market today and one upcoming device has certainly highlighted the overheating issue of Qualcomm’s latest chipset.
Apparently, a Dutch website has made a test on five smartphones including the Apple iPhone 6 Plus, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the HTC One M8, the LG G3, and the upcoming HTC One M9 using the “GFXBench” app as benchmark, reports GSM Arena.
In turns out that after some amount of time of continued use with the benchmark app, HTC One M9 posted the highest temperature reading via infrared of 55 degrees Celsius, which would make the phone too hot to hold on to.
The LG G3 recorded the second highest temperature reading of 42.2 degrees Celsius, followed by the Apple iPhone 6 Plus with a reading of 39.4 degrees Celsius. HTC One M8 recorded a temperature of 38.7 degrees Celsius, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 turned out to be the coolest among the five at 37.8 degrees Celsius.
Software is not final yet
Following the result of the benchmark test done on the five flagship smartphones, Jeff Gordon, HTC’s online communications chief, immediately took to Twitter to say that the software of HTC One M9 is not final yet.
Without Gordon directly saying it, he wanted people to know that whatever pre-release benchmark test is carried out on flagship smartphones including the upcoming HTC One M9, it would not be definitive as far as their upcoming flagship device is concerned because they are still testing it.
The test also showed that the HTC One M9 only reaches that ‘too hot to handle’ temperature when it is running the “GFXBench.” It was found out that in other 3D games such as “Asphalt 8” or “Assassin’s Creed: Pirates,” the upcoming flagship device of HTC merely stayed around 42 degrees Celsius, which is way cooler than the 55 degrees Celsius it recorded for “GFXBench.”
But still, it was the hottest among the bunch during the test, as the other flagship smartphones remained below 38 degrees Celsius.
Capable of fixing
The good thing about the benchmark test is that it gave HTC the opportunity to fix the problem since it was still on a pre-release and testing phase for its upcoming flagship smartphone.
HTC can easily address the problem by focusing on software changes and it would appear now that the Taiwanese tech company may be seriously looking on the overheating problem of Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor.
Thus, it would also not be a surprise if the HTC One M9 finally rolls out in the next couple of months and it is no longer being powered by the Snapdragon 810 chipset.
